A Ford with a strange number plate, the ladies seem to be Indians.
Any idea where this could be?

Has arabic lettering on the number plate, possibly a car that came from the Middle East or a picture taken there.

A Jaguar 1.5 Litre in presumably Bengal. Any idea where this place is? There are further more places which this Jaguar has visited.

Cheers harit

A Ford with a strange number plate, the ladies seem to be Indians.

Ford car, number plate in Arabic, reads as 2859, probably not in KSA, seems to be other gulf countries might be Kuwait. Or it might be diplomat's family, special badge on number plate may be diplomat car.
However Number plate has changed in KSA, it has Arabic and English,
earlier it was only in Arabic and mark of cross sword in KSA, AD for Abu Dhabi, Dubai for UAE.

Cheers!

I think those pictures are to do with liberation of Goa, and yup, that is indeed a rare Barndoor.

Last week there was a display of old images from Parsi families as part of new year celebrations at Dadar Parsi Colony. These 2 images were particularly of interest to me. Buick is a 1949, not 48, and Harley is apparently shot around 1920. Note the old BOM series registration for Bombay.

I have reasons to suspect that this Amby with a nun in the back is a still from a movie. Any comments?

Arvind,
Most excellent photos!

Harit,
Some more lovely pictures from you also.
As for your Indian ladies in a '50s(?) car somewhere in the Arabic plate world, the only country that had plates with western numerals at the top alongside Arabic numerals was Lebanon. The plate should have been only about 2" deeper than is shown on the photo and that missing bit would have had Liban in both scripts on it! So close but so far!
Cheers
Cedric

Hi Cedric,
Nice number plate put up, clarifies a lot. There were quite some number of Indian in Lebanon in the 1960's.
Here is a TAJ Buick, this must be in south India. Who issued this TAJ series?

Cheers harit

re: Nostalgic automotive pictures including our family's cars

Here are some picture for the new dt-bhp Stanher. I doubt that these Standards were scratch proof
The seven seater? DeSoto or Chrysler Taxi in the background may have interested me more. The Ford Consul a bit less.

Cheers harit

re: Nostalgic automotive pictures including our family's cars

I just got this picture delivered to me.
The guy who got it thought that it was me in younger days.
I had a good look and thought of Jacky Schroff in his young days.
I wonder if the spare fitment like this was common, would have blocked the flow of air to the radiator.
It is a Willys, and is left hand drive if the guy was driving it.

Cheers harit

MHN 3110 appears shortly in the blockbuster 'Amar Akbar Anthony' - so who could the actor be?
