CAR FOR SALE : " STANDARD -10 " : 1961 MODEL - Hyderabad - Cars - Uppal
Maybe they are ambitious and want to have that much? We can refuse to buy, but cannot stop anyone from asking for the sky. Perceptions differ, you see.
Maybe that is the starting point for negotiation?

Cheers harit

I think they are not ''ambitious'' because it is something positive and good, these sort of demand is pure ''avariciousness''
How can you negotiate with someone who asks 5 million for a fintail!!!??

Aah! Here is the same car (and the story behind it!) a couple of years ago, before he got it 'restored':

http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/vintag...ml#post1366699

http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/vintag...ml#post1373402

And yes, the man is 'ambitious' enough allright- I know how much a painstaking job he undertook to 'restore' it to the present state!!

I had tried many a time to buy the car off him then, but he was quoting an atrocious price then itself!

PS: I do have the horn-button of this car with me (how it landed with me is another story- no I did NOT nick it off the car!)

Maybe he is trying to downplay the market as he does not want competition. Values of good cars are strong in the international market.

Re: Vintage & Classic car valuation

Talking of unrealistic quotes, todays local daily here has an ad for a 1952 Studebaker fitted with a Tata sumo Engine, asking price is only 2million Indian rupees the funniest part is the owner seriously believes that he is asking quite a reasonable price!!!

Re: Vintage & Classic car valuation

Are these cars a rarity in india? even so, will they command the price quoted?

Could senior collectors give a honest, unbiased opinion about this?

1966 CHEVROLET IMPALA Working condition for sale @ 16 lacs/- - Mumbai -

Pontiac Chieftain 1951 - Karnataka - Cars
Oldsmobile and Pontiac from Karnataka seem to have moved out from Chennai.
Recently a similar Pontiac was sold in Maharshtra for less than 1/3rd of what is being asked now.

well said haritj, many such cars actually changes hands for a fraction of their inflated quotes.I know of a good 1948 Riley RM where the intial quote was around a million INR, finally got sold for Rs.4.5lakhs. But the irony is most of us wont know the price at which the deal occurs!!

to add to the above... and most of us will not bother to waste our heads trying to negotiate with such a high initial price in the first place! I mean Where do you even start??
