Big American cars of the 1960's and 1970's are now getting rare. These cars were prestigious in their time, lots around, and very popular with the filmwallahs for bashing. Worth keeping atleast one. This from Mumbai Mirror.

Another article, this time from the Times of India. Appears to have been abruptly cut as not complete.
This red DKW has landed up in Nagpur, adding to Noddy's fleet.
Ranjit has had some really exceptionally great cars going through his hands.

This write-up appeared in a recent Zigwheels issue, probably June 2010.
Has anyone ever heard of a VW-Tempo? Such a creature never existed. This is a creation, an amalgamation of engine + mechanicals of a Beetle with the body of a Tempo G1200. If one were to go by this, then there would be many more examples, Dodge-Perkins, Jeep-Kirloskar, Mercedes-Tempo, name of the car and the engine manufacturers names linked. Pure fantasy.
There are a few a Tempo G1200's in India, Jodhpur and Goa have one each, there is one in Bihar without engine. There was one in Bombay which has disappeared.
This VW-Tempo has a rear mounted Beetle engine, has nothing to do with the Kuebelwagen. Just google Kuebelwagen and see the difference. The original Tempo was 4-wheel drive, the engine had 2 cylinder in the front and 2 cylinder in the rear, coupled by a crankshaft that connected the two ends where a prop shaft would normally be found. It was made by Tempo, which after a series of take-over's is now a part of Mercedes-Benz. This is the company which collaborated with Bajaj for the Tempo, both 3 and 4 wheelers.
This example in Pune is undoubtedly a fun vehicle, nice to drive around, impressive to look at, but is a creation, no originality because of the Beetle engine. The VW monogram was very ingeniuously placed on the bonnet giving it an impression of being genuine.
And if you search the BHP threads on a Bombay rally held many years ago, this has already been discussed.
A high standard magazine should not make such errors.

Cheers harit

Not a Beetle engine, but maybe Type 3 or Type 4 VW. The ID plate says Type 42.

A German tourist spotted this convertible Minor in a palace hotel in Bikaner. He was not clear whether it was a working car or kept for show, restoration was good with hardly any rust. Anyone knows more about this? Was she kept in the doorway to prevent elephants from storming the place?

Cheers harit

Here's an Ad from the "Veteran and Vintage" magazine, from a 1965 copy. The magazine itself is a classic now, so's the advert !!

I saw the film recently, a song sequence features the LTD. Lots of older cars are seen, the star is a (rather unimpressively maintained) 115 Mercedes used by Ajay Devgan. Others include a couple of Beetles, a neat 1960 Chevy panoramic window sedan, and Harit's evergreen Dodge Custom Royal.

The W115 used by Devgun was a run down car almost junk offered for sale for a fancy (200K) and then not so fancy price (50K). This was bought by Ekta Kapoor of someone else for a stunning 3.5 lakhs and was gifted to Devgun who wanted to get it restored. DOnt know if it is restored or not as yet.

Regarding the so called Tempo Kubelwagon, Harit has said it all and it was thoroughly discussed in the Classic rally thread. The car also won a few prizes as the "Most Unique Car" etc etc. Ridiculous!!

'saw this old photo published in an article in today's (or rather yesterday's by now!) local paper, about the Liberation of Hyd. from the possession of the Nizam and accession into the Indian Union following Independence.

The car seems to be a Ford Super-deluxe?
