Re: Vintage & Classic car parts info

A 1928 Chevrolet seven seater (its jumbo sized) is undergoing restoration at Nagpur. This belonged to the Maharaja of Rewa. Some spares and engine work going on are seen.Super Circle OE piston rings and the sealed box can be seen so also the carburettor, a new water pump, engine head with valves, the engine block, the fan are all seen. I will post the car's picture sometime later.

Could we have snaps of the car also ! Is this a sedan or a convertible . Has this been post the royal lineage in long time ownership with the current person who is restoring it or a recent acquisition

Cheers

Re: Vintage & Classic car parts info

The chevrolet mentioned above , being restored seems to have a 6 cylinder engine and from the pictures the engine looks like a later period car. The water pump, carbruttor and the engine head in 1928 chevy where different. THe engine was 4 cylinder and carberuttor was UPDRAFT. A few pictures of the car will confrim the model

That was my suspicion too, that the engine is from the Fleetmaster series. Does the stamped number 48 indicate year of production by chance?

Re: Vintage & Classic car parts info

Hi

I have a 1957 FIAT Elegant. It has been my beloved possession since 1999. I have not yet been able to afford a serious restoration and have just managed to keep the car roadworthy.

The car accompanied me during a short stint in Ratnagiri where the boggy weather, especially during monsoons, has not done it much good. At the moment, the car is undergoing some much-needed body-work and a paintjob. Again, this work is not really a restoration, but more a resuscitation.

However, I am now planning and saving for a proper restoration, hopefully in the near future. With that in mind, I have begun to collect as many original parts as possible from now itself, lest it be too late afterwards. Besides, I hope to incorporate as many original body-parts as possible into the car right now.

Unfortunately, I am working with a tight budget and shall need to be pragmatic about every decision.

I shall be needing the following parts, whether for now, or the later major job:

1) Steering Wheel with the horn button
2) Speedometer
3) Combination Switch
4) Front Indicator Lamp Assembly and Lenses (Both)
5) Trim (or Show-patti a.k.a. Side-patti)
6) Fuel Tank Lid
7) Front & Rear Windshield Rubbers
8) Boot Handle
9) Fender (Both)
10) Wheel Cap (4)

I stay in Panvel. So, I could easily travel to Pune or Nasik, too, besides Mumbai, if required, to procure these parts.

I would be grateful for any help in this matter. Would you please also give me your opinion regarding the reasonable prices of these parts?

I am a newbie and can't PM anybody here. But I can receive any PMs sent to me. My e-mail address is parthbapat@yahoo.co.in and my cell numbers are 9969105570 & 9922247749.

Thanks & regards.

Looks like a Rover SD1 engine. There was rover sd 1 for sale in chennai. Maybe the owner scrapped the car and kept the engine. But having said that a very competent engine.
Someone who has a standard 2000 can buy this engine and pop it inside their car!

That, dear sirs, was merely a trailer.

Kindly go through both the following advertisements.
http://chennai.olx.in/rover-sd-1-eig...-iid-730574214

What does the car cost? 4 big ones. Right? Now, for this-

http://chennai.olx.in/v-8-petrol-3-l...-iid-740297236

What does the V8 motor cost?

12 big ones. Yes, twelve.

The seller- The very same.

Now, I know! The car itself depreciates, but the motor appreciates.

This is bizarre! The whole thing seems a little shady, perhaps the car comes without the engine although the seller hasn't mentioned it

I mean, where is the sense in a car with a similar engine included, being priced at a third of only another similar engine by the same seller? Unless the engine which made me laugh has been modified with gold cylinder sleeves for very efficient heat dissipation! Oh there's a gearbox to go along with it; maybe that explains it

A} The original boot handles are quite rare these days. Try putting ones from the Padmini.

B} A Good Padmini steering can suffice. Keep in mind that the steering has to be of the earlier thin rimmed variety only.

Note, that the Elegant had the steering in a greyish shade. Perhaps you could paint..?

C} Fuel tank lid- Again, this is non original. The original ones were like this-

Vintage & Classic Car Parts-57-byh-2434.jpg

Again, the Delight/PP lid shall suffice.

Lastly, the indicator lenses. Try using Fiat Uno ones. Quite similar. BTW, do you have the characteristic "Anda" lenses?

All these can be obtained at the ill-famed Chor-Bazzar, @ C.S.T Road.

As regards to the fenders, repair them. Salvage them. There are good workshops in Bombay itself, why don't you go there?

Ohh yes. Try eBay Italy/UK for pats.
