All these clubs,be it VCCI or VCCCI or HMSCI! any club for that matter, only looks inwards. Unfortunately, we do not have an All India Federation of all clubs

Pardon my ignorance but what is BIS?

Also does it have to be the manufacturer or individual seller?

And since when has this rule been in place? I understand that quite a few people have been importing tyres for vintage/classic cars? I was given to understand there are also some agents in India for importing tyres from abroad.

BIS, Bureau of Indian Standards. Theses are Indian equivalent of ANSI, DIN, IS, BS standards. These lay down the mandatory conditions to fulfilled in design and manufacture of a product. These govern the safety and performance of the product too.

The issue arises in homologation, which is a tough job. Indian tire manufactures have made life miserable for imported stuff.

But then one off case for personal consumption should have no issues, have to pay duty tough.

A similar problem is faced by people using imported helmets that don't bear the ISI mark.

Imports not permitted. Period. Not even for personal consumption. That is the policy, created by the Indan tyre manufacturers cartel (read mafia).

Sir, in such circumstances, as I understand that your restored cars have all been fitted with new original (imported?) tyres, could I know how you have been managing to procure them? (I wish to know as I was intending to get a set of 5.60-13 "Firestone" X-plies for my Herald, found suppliers in US and Australia)

It is a more recent development - import was allowed earlier. It has been driven I believe by flooding of chinese tyres for the bus and truck market. The after effects are for us to suffer.

My imports were made prior to the import policy anouncement. At present, it looks almost impossible

Not really, Chinese tyres. Cartel of indian tyre companies thwarted all imports si that they can rule.

Spares of a Chevrolet straight six engine under restoration. The carburettor and fuel pump are of Carter make. The piston rings are to be replaced with the original Super Circle make (the sealed box is clicked). The forging on the engine block shows the engine number. Besides, the fan, water pump and self starter are also seen:

Could it be from the Roaring '20s and '30s as described by Race Dunlop? Or the Progressive '40s to '50s. We are all curious to know.
