Sir spot on. This is car in the photographs is indeed a Commander.

Never seen the car in Bombay before.

Any one know about this car?
Yes this car is know to loads of people. I wonder how come you missed the car so long being based in Bombay. Have attached a pic for your reference. As correctly mentioned by Karl, the car is a Flight Hawk. The Flight Hawk was based on the Champion two-door coupe introduced in 1953. Like the other 1956 Hawks, the Flight Hawk received a new hood, grille, decklid and instrument panel. Flight Hawks otherwise had the minimum amount of exterior chrome and received hubcaps unless full wheel covers were otherwise ordered from the factory or optioned through the dealer. Unlike the other Hawks, however, which were all powered strictly by V-8 engines, the Flight Hawk came with the Champion's 185.6-cubic-inch (3.0-liter) inline six-cylinder engine, rated at 101 horsepower. This car could be either a standard three-speed manual transmission, the same with overdrive, or a three-speed automatic transmission known as a Flight-O-Matic. The Flight Hawk was a two-door pillared coupe unlike the Golden hawk which was a Pillar less coupe. The Flight hawk also didn't have the fins on top of the rear fenders like the Golden hawk. You would also like to know that this is one of the 3 existing Hawk's in India. These were the cheaper ones of the hawks available.

This car was in lucknow till a few months back. It was offered to a friend of mine WBD8779 on the forum who had sent me pics of the same. The asking price was quite high.

The car is with a dealer here at Khar, has been taking the brunt of the Mumbai monsoon. Its staus as a static display is unlikely to change for some time considering the price being quoted for it.

Re: Pics: Vintage & Classic cars in India

It's been standing there for ages albiet very well maintained car. Love the sparkling blue shade of the car and the way it's been maintained. I know someone in Banjara Hills, who owns amazing vintage cars but has not yet given me a NOD to take pics of his vintage cars.

Re: Studebaker and Nash Cars in India

A 1954 period nice and rare 2 door Studebaker Champion Conestago will soon be seen on the road. The car has a lot of accessories and its in superb nic and preserved to the interiors etc. She is in original paint and the chrome too.

Cheers
