Nice car.
Are those Overriders on the rear bumper original...stock Merc. parts? I haven't seen them before. If it is, then why are they missing on the front?

Very nice car . Like the exterior and interior colour combo, a change from the blacks and whites that I normally see on the W115's.

That is one well maintained car you've got there. What happened to the side mouldings/strips? They seem to be missing on all sides. I reckon you had a paint resto done recently...

Re: Vintage & Classic Mercedes Benz Cars in India

@ mbz180
Thank you,sir for appreciating the car.The green color is almost similar
to the original color of the car and since the original upholstery was
orangish beige so that why i decided to stick with beige.
@ Col.jasi
The car was restored ground up and forgot to put the beadings and the
side view mirror before the pics were clicked ,hence they are missing from
the pics.

I dont want to sound mean and petty but there are a number of point i would like to hear everyones comments on. A major point is that many years hence these pictures may and probably will be used by others as reference material for future restorations, hence I feel that it is necessary to point out any shortcomings or deviations. The idea is not to ridicule or belittle someones efforts but only to set the record straight.

1. The front grille from the car looks to be 1971, the 1970 had the much smaller squares. The wipers are painted black, this was not the case with the originals.

2. The front seats or what is visible of them are certainly not the seats which were installed in the 115 series. There is a complete design change to the seats. the ventilation outlets are missing the chrome ring surround.

3. The steering is from the 2nd generation 115's.

4. The area under the dashboard where the hood opening handle is located was not carpeted in the 115 series. It was a black cardboard, and the line from the door ran upto the end of the legspace area, on the bulkhead.

5. The exhaust pipe cover is not the original design. The beading under the boot has been screwed into place. There is not a single screw on the beading all around. Also the boot lip seems to be out of alignment as you can see the rubber seal.

6.Is this an original diesel? I can not see the glow plug heater and the corner of the speedometer shows a figure like 200 Km/hr, as far as I remember the diesels only read to 100 MPH or 160 km/hr.

Looking forward to comments on the above observations.

Not to forget the lip of the trunk over the 220 sign is not aligned well.

Re: Vintage & Classic Mercedes Benz Cars in India

@ Alvis and wasif sir,
I agree there are parts missings here and there, but this only half the
the restoration.I was in hurry to get the car back on road so didn't
wait for the parts to arrive. Will be adding missing things ASAP.The
beading was held up a screw because of delay in arrival of side
beadings and locks. This is not a diesel but sadly had been converted
by the previous owner. Will post pics of the complete car.
on a look out for the original inline 6cyl engine. Will replace the
diesel when i find it.

Aha my friend, so then this must originally have been a 230. So that would make it a W 114 !
The six cylinder was a jewel of an engine, with twin Zenith INAT carbs it had very good mid range torque and a higly respectable top speed. It could easily top 100 MPH in third gear. Lovely sound too.

The Nissan 240 Z engine was a blueprint copy of this engine (M 180), all they did was change the inlet and exhaust sides to avoid patent infringments.

From what I can make out your car probably also has the factory air conditioning, the indicator being the central console. These cars were fitted with Behr units at the factory and the A/C blower would suck air from the left and right footwells, the curvature in the console was to accommodate the blowers on the evaporator unit.

I had a 230 for many many years and it gave me miles and miles of enjoyable and happy motoring. These cars are truly engineered like no other car in the world.
The attached photograph is from 1982.

Re: Vintage & Classic Mercedes Benz Cars in India

@ Alvis sir,
The service book says it is a 220 w115 manufactured in 1970,sold and
registered in 1971.AFAIK 220's came with a 2.2l 4cyl. engine but the
previous owner claimed that it had a 6cyl engine. The serial no. plate
also says w115.

That was his family Lancia, Alvis's family had great cars, you can know about them on pakwheels, but you have to go through lots of posts. If I remember correctly, that Lancia does not exist anymore. We have a similar car in Chennai.

Cheers harit

There used to be a silver Lancia Flaminia Coupe/Cabriolet in Delhi few years ago - don't know now.
