I remember seeing a faded maroon 220se convertible in the late 1980's in Bangalore outside Classic Automotive. Never saw it again

Its a six cylinder 220 SE.
The white roadster had similar dials and steering wheel even when i saw it for the first time at Nepeansea road. If i remember right the number was different (or maybe this is another car) that too was white, unrestored and had a wrong engine if i remember right but am unclear on that detail. It was standing at the roadside garage opp of the Jewelery store which is now Gold's Gym.
Does anyone know what happened to the Mercedes late 30's convertible 170, im presuming, which used to stand at the corner car showroom, opp Metro motors at Hughes Rd? It was black and owned by Mr. Kumar who also owned an Austin Chummy (or was it a Morris dont remember clearly, was a kid back then!!)
Then He sold the cars and eventually the showroom. Harit, any leads?
There was also a car in Chowpatty in a garage near the Lord and Taylor shop. That was also a convertible Mercedes, also black. Guessing it was a 170 too. |
220SE may have earlier belonged to an industrial family, a lady used to drive that car and the hood was torn.
The white roadster had a gujrat number and the mechanicals indeed are changed.
Kumars cars was not his, it belonged to the parsi family which owned Brooklands garage next to Noble motors. This was a 4 door open tourer, now in white with Doc in Bangalore. And he had a black hard top Austin which belongs to a person staying on Nepean Sea Road. He may have kept it elsewhere.
The car behind lord and Taylor was the roof rolling down cabriolet version in black, which now belongs to none other than our Kasli:Shockked:
Cheers harit
Here is a Ponton wagon that I used to see quite reguarly in the 90s, but then didn't see for years together. It appears to be a genuine Binz conversion, quite original, and an early car (small logo hubcaps, small tail lights). I was told by my electrician that it is for sale, asking price was in double digit lakhs.
Cannot verify though.
Recently in Bombay in Mahim I did see a 115 Mercedes Hearse, MMF regd. It was under a cover, but the wheels and bumpers looked to be in good shape. Wonder if it still in service?

It is in service, pun intended. It serves as a hearse. It was recently built from a regular W115. I saw it being built and is parked with a few Tata (estate?) Hearses. RIP.......W115:Frustrati
Hi Guys,
I was visiting Fort Kochi along with some of my friends earlier this week. We stopped dead in our tracks upon spotting this beauty. A mint condition Mercedes Benz 200 (W110 Fintail).
She was just emitting some special aura and we were drawn towards her! Must belong to the hotel.

this particular fintail was imported to a place near changanacherry by an NRI in 1969 ,the car being a 1967 model .
the car was lying unused for many years in their house, unknown even to local enthusiasts.
somehow a car dealer from Kochi got a whiff of it abt 4 years ago and got it for a cool Rs.70000/-:D (as per my info).he had brought a mechanic along who started the car and drove it away.
Nice car looks intact
Thanks for the background info about this W110 guys! Wanted to know her history from the moment I saw her. She is a beauty no doubt!
This lady is resting in some place in Bangalore, and I happened to bump into her.
If some one is interested, I can give the co-ordinates. Dont know who the owner is though.
Can someone enlighten me about the model etc?
Please share the location (QTH) with me. Let me go and look her up! Not sure how successfully the item can be restored to full glory.
Was lying for a service at Auto Hanger Andheri

Its a early 60's W110 Saloon, the one popularly called the Heckflosse (Fintail). This one looks like a 190.
Pathetic condition though.
