It seems that this Merc has received a slight makeover, but this is the famous Mumbai Roadster which we have seen before. This matter of having been with Mumtaz is relatively new to me.
I am not sure is 794 cars mentioned pertains to the year 1937 only, but there are a minimum of 12 Roadsters in India, with one still unaccounted for. And surely there are some of which I do not know.
But, a stunning car.
Could someone who visited the Auto Expo let us know how many vintage and classic cars are displayed apart from the HMCI stall? This is there at the Auto India stall, then there is an Audi Roadster at the Audi stall, any others?

Cheers harit

Here's a link to a very nice essay by a fellow Bhpian and good friend about the saga of his Ponton. It is being currently re-restored by Mr Bumpu Sircar and we very much look forward to the end product. Meanwhile here's the link.

May be MBZ 180 can add some new updates to this.

Pic 1 APY 10 is a 300, convertible, one of the earliest known, from Hyderabad, went to Indore. Has engine difficulties.
Pic 2 also looks like a 300, but cannot place it
Pic 3 belongs to our tbhpian Kasli
Pic 4 Maybe in Parla, Mumbai. Mr. Mole, please help.
Pic 5 again a 320, now in Mumbai. One of the cars on either side is also a Merc, maybe 230.

Pic 1 & 2 DLE is not a 500, maybe 290. No idea where she is now.
Pic 3 an early 170?
Pic 4 is a Merc Nurburg
Pic 5, 6 & 7 MYV 880 is a 230 or so. I have these same pictures. But otherwise no clue. I think exoticars has these pictures too.
Pic 8 no clue.
Have made a beginning, now someone has to come forward for the rest.

Taking a wild guess, many of these pictures, if not cars have a Calcutta connection.

Cheers harit

Any idea who were the original owners of APY 110.

Harit that car you refer to as an early 170 is definitely something that predated the 170 series. It has a mid to late twenties look, where is she now ?

That huge Nurburg convertible is sure to be know, wher is it now. If this is a Nurburg then this is probably the third such car we know about like the one with Doc and the Sircar car.

Harit you were complaining that this forum has gone a bit dull so I have spiced it up a bit to get you to share your "pearls of wisdom" !!!

The pictures of the 170 and the orangish 300 (2nd picture) were taken in our garage. The 170v is still with us.

Mr.Singhania has a similar convertible like the first picture. Dont remember the designation.

Wow that merc looks really interesting.

A little clarification. The car which belongs to us is not a Nurburg. The car which we own is 1930 mercedes Benz 260 Stuttgart Special Version.

However there was a Nurburg Mercedes in Jharkhand which my dad had seen when he had gone to buy our studebaker president.Later we were told that the car has been sold so does anyone have any idea about that car?

Hi Wasif,

Apy 10, I was told, belonged to an elderly gent from Banjara Hills. Whether it went to Bangalore and then on to Indore I do not know. But the cam was broken.
Just check Mercedes W 15, was also called 170, but without the V. I do not know where she is now. Late 20's suits.
Nurburg belongs to a collector in Calcutta. There are 2 more for sure, Doc and Telco. There was a junk in Nagpur, I cannot trace its fate.

Yes I know, but there is a puzzle. The 300 lying with you was green, doubtful ownership and missing parts, with auto tranny lying in the boot. But this is orange?

What was the colour of the car please, and the condition?

I think exoticars has these pictures too.
The MRZ Ponton I think is in Pune with a local collector who has displayed most cars at his hotel of late.

And yes, all these pictures are from xoticars vast archives.

Harit uncle there was the green which stood for a long time and if i remember right Mr Dossa took it. The orange stood with us for a few months and went to the south.

Does this 220 Merc W115 still exist? Haven't seen a similar looking 115 anywhere else. Assuming this is an export to USA model? Any other pics of this beauty?
