I am aware of a W115 ambulance> it was offered to me a year ago and i think it may still be available. It is no tthe one that Amol has put up. Amol, ill dig up my files and check if its still available. If it is, i could persuae the guy to sell it for quite an o price.

Did anyone read the rotten W115 which was gifted to Ajay Devgan by Ekta Kapoor? I was oferd that car and even almost begged by the owner's cousin to take it and restore it. The price was also very low but i declined. The car was a wreck. No show strips, almost hand painted, crap upholstery, unoriginal side panels, noisy engine (i almost thought it was a diesel) no suspension, no firewall...yes that was almost hanging and too.

Of course i refused. Then some film shooting guy bought it and the car's head and engine were worked upon at a very meagre amount, i.e. on a budget.

The i read that Ajay Devgun took a fancy to it and Ekta gifted it to him. Lucky bum, i was told it was sold to Ekta for almost 3.5. Dont be shocked, its true. Now to see who gyps the poor actor to restore that junk. Not that its not doable. I have soem pics which i will dig and post. I pity Ajay Devgun.

We probably speak of the same car, my father was at Telco for years.

I used to see it regularly as a kid, in my pre camera days. Then I saw it a few months ago at a garage getting work done, where I was politely declined to take photos.

I can tell you the details though - ivory wheel, twin vertical door tail gate, small tail lights like yours, no hubcaps (when I saw it last). Minor corrossion issues, overall in good original shape.

First of all, I only read filmfare at my barber's shop .

The last time I was there, this issue caught my attention. There was a 'cars of the stars' type of article in which jackie shroff is reported to have owned a 540K!!!

The image is fuzzy but as best as I can recollect here is what the article said

"Out of the huge collection of cars Jackie has owned, he says the vintage mercedes 540K was his most prized possession. It was 17 feet long and 3 tonns in weight. It was a little hard to handle and hence he had to give it away"

Is this true? Did he really own a 540K?

Good morning sir!

He very much did own it, has been discussed extensively on the forum. It was in Pune for years. Cosmetically it was more or less restored at Indore, mechanical components were (and still are) missing. Car was recently sold apparently to the Pune based poultry magnate family. Rumour has it that it has gone abroad for restoration.

Car earlier belonged to late Ravi Kumar in Bangalore.

EDIT - "Out of the huge collection of cars Jackie has owned, he says the vintage mercedes 540K was his most prized possession. It was 17 feet long and 3 tonns in weight. It was a little hard to handle and hence he had to give it away"

I doubt it ever ran, so doubt he knew how it handled

Aha, so he owned that car at some point. Are there any pictures of it in (cosmetically) restored condition?

ajmat if you are talking about the blue 280T petrol it will go for the right price knowing the owner hard to believe the right person line, if it is maroon she is in a sad state 300D though, short of importing a new car there is nothing left in her. There was a silver one 300D mannual the owner was not interested then 2 years later her advertised it in Autocar and I think it was sold outside. The only good one in Mumbai is owned by a good friend who has promised it to me the day his dad desides to sell. She is offwhite and I am sure he is reading this!

ajmat what color is she maybe I qualify as a deserving buyer.

@ Cannonball. I know you and me are talking about the same car and same person. I might seem to be a tad little more adept at negotiating with him...(not due to any particularly prevalent skills of mine but due to a one on one relationship with him wherein he occasionally confides in me.) Anyone interested in that machine may contact me please with the price they expect to get it at. I just might be able to fulfil someone's dream...i said might!! No promises but then at least the car will be better cared for and driven)

Mercedes Station Wagons and Ambulances

Does anyone else have other pictures of Variants in Mercedes marque.
K.Karunakaran, the former Chief Minister of Kerala, used to have a fintail station wagon as his official state car,if I'm not mistaken this was when he was the Home Minister. He was a speed freak and is still remembered for his flat out driving.Of course it was his driver driving and the roads were cleared for his high speed motorcade. In fact his escort cars, diesel Ambys and Jeeps crashed up regularly trying to keep up with his official car which was most often a Mercedes. Many years later I remember the finny wagon rotting away at the lot opposite the Taj Residency,M.G.Road, Bangalore.
The Amala Cancer Hospital at Trichur,Kerala had a 115 ambulance, similiar to the one in the picture, it was gifted from Germany.I wonder if this is the same vehicle.
Cheers,
SG
