I guess the shock is one of the side effects but hey that should deter people from honking incessantly Maybe we should patent this idea.

A few days ago in the Daily Mirror newspaper there was this pic, a 300 convertible and a text. Just read this, Queen Victoria sat in one of Pranlal's Rolls's.
According to Wikipedia, Victoria (Alexandrina Victoria; 24 May 1819 - 22 January 1901) was the Queen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland from 20 June 1837, and the first Empress of India of the British Raj from 1 May 1876, until her death (22 January 1901). So Pranlal has the earliest Rolls in the world! But RR was founded in 1906.
Actually, they must have refered to the Victoria style body which Pranlal recreated on a Ghost chassis on the lines of the Maharaja of Mysore car.
Putting this in this thread as the Merc is pictured.

Cheers harit

I found this intresting picture on our MBZ Ponton site.

The car a 180 belonged to Bakshi Ghulam Mohammed, Prime Minister of Kashmir from 1953-64. The Number Plate "Kashmir-S11"

From the Hubcaps the car is surely a pre 57 model.

Now I know this car doesn't actually belong here but this is for the benefit of those amongst us you have a weakness for the products from this company

Car is in Sharjah belonging to the Sheik who has opened up his collection for viewing. It was actually spotted parked in front of a McDonalds in Abu Dhabi, perhaps the owner craved a McArabia !!!

It is immaculate condition as can be see with the exception of the loud fabric seat covers which hide the original upholstry beneath them.

That badge on the grille is also very cool

It's a USA only model, the 4.5. It's a smog version engine which was increased in size to cope with the lower compression that Americans specified. This was to lower combustion temperatures and Nox emmisions.
They also had a three speed automatic trans ,whereas the 3.5 available everywhere else had 4 speed auto's . The earlier 3.5's had a fluid flywheel instead of a torque convertor and this generally acknowledged as a great driving trans.
This lower compression meant that the 4.5 doesn't perform as well as a 3.5 ( which are real road rockets) but are still very capable cars .

I own a E320 Cabrio 1994, I need to now source some parts for the convertible top. Not the hydraulic cylinders, which have been replaced, but some cosmetic plastic parts and clips, handles etc. Which would be the right source? Straight from MB Germany or some good dealer from UK? Since these dealers in India are totally no good at this.
The E cabrio is precious to me, and have owned it since 1996.
Maybe Alvis or Starman can help on this.
Well you could try USA a friend of mine just picked up some good second hand parts from a car that was being scrapped. He got very good parts which he got back from there and he would be using them on his car.You could also join the MB club and you will find other people with the same car and they would be able to help you better. You could try ebay usa if you are looking for parts. We get all our parts sourced through UK with our supplier there sio if you like we could help you get the stuff. There are people in India who help us with parts for imported cars depending on our requirement.

If you join a MB club ( affiliated to Mercedes Benz) you get a club card with which you can directly access the on line parts catalogue. I use it all the time because it lists parts for ALL Mercedes Built. With this you can then quote exactly the part number to any mercedes Dealer and obtain the exact part without them having to look up the part you need. Sometimes a part is discontinued (e.g Ponton flasher lever..no part listed) this is when you need to look further and the exact same part is listed as being used on all the fintail cars. This is when you need to be able look at other models, and with the access to the EPC this is then possible. Again you then have part numbers which any Mercedes dealer can use.
What is amazing is that Mercedes parts going back to 1936 are available off the shelf!

Heckflosse

1967/230 S for all the fintail buffs, my all time favourite Merc.Imported from Kuwait now in Cochin via Bangalore. The coastal weather here is terrible for these cars. Has anyone tried clear coating the chrome, I'm told that Dupont has a chrome specific product.
Cheers,
SG

Wow,what a stunner!!. it's not often you see a completely original finny these days.
What you can do to prevent rust forming on the chrome is use 'Johnsons Baby oil'. You pour some on a clean cloth and rub it into the chrome. Just redo it every week or so and and it keeps the chrome in good condition and doesn't get oily or dusty.
Another important thing to watch is the right rear tail ight . This is directly above the exhaust pipe and the gasses attack the diecast metal .you can protect against this by making sure the exhaust pipe has a chrome extension which projects out further than the bumper.
Mercedes factory chrome is very high quality but the inside of the bumpers and grill are where rust starts. They should be painted a creme beige color from new and often this needs to be renewed to prevent rust starting.
