Yup, there is one in Lalaji's collection, I assume it is the same.

Glad you brought back the memories. The Hindusthan 14 is BMU 4523, the 2 Matadors/Vikings were MRG 282 and MRF 6709. There is a lovely Amby Mk 2 Taxi, MRP 4944 in the song sequence, and Vinod Khanna is seen driving a white Peugeot MMB 4551. The Ford is BYK 729. Also a lovely 58-61 yellow Beetle is seen driven away by bodyguard 'Zabisco' and Jenny (Parveen Babi) outside Mount Mary at Bandra. The Chrysler Imperial (?) was a long wheel base, DLD 2790. I think it is currently in a Delhi collection. Good times! |
Thanks Karl for the information. The registration numbers you have recorded match perfectly with the ones somewhere deep in my memory but not emerging.
Just forgot to mention about the lovely Beetle shown outside the Bandra church.
Its soothing to know that the Chrysler is still surviving.
Apart from this, I also saw Badmash Company while flying a few days ago.It features a sea green (no two tone but a single colour) two door Herald of the early 1960's being driven many a time by Shahid Kapoor till he becomes a rich man.
Guess
Stanher may have seen the movie.

The Herald in the movie is MHJ 5301. It shortly appears in 'once upon a time in Mumbai' also.
Hi everyone, I am Srinand and I am new to team-bhp and this is my first post. I was watching Malgudi days, a tv series from the late eighties and found a car which was on the screen for a few brief moments, i don't know which car it is and assumed it was a rolls royce from the brief view of a hood ornament which kind of looks like the spirit of ecstacy, please find attached the screenshots of same. Wait to hear from the experts about which car it is.
regards,
Srinand.
Here's some from a new Hindi movie. Golmal Returns (Part3?)
Set it Goa and it had about 2-3 vintage cars shown quite a bit.
Unfortunately it was portrayed in a silly way..supposed to be a cartoon car used by a clown (Jhony Lever) . Sorry I do not recognize the cars.
Was a pink colored W123 as well but was in good shape. I must warn you the movie is extremely silly.:)

Very Interesting and extremely rare to see a Rover P5 in any movie hindi tamil or otherwise? Was it a part of the plot or just a passer by, cant really read the registration no? maybe she survives! appears to have no quarter glasses which indicates she could be a Mark 1, however the trims are that of a Mark3 1965-67.
Thanks for the pic though, can you read the registration off your tv screen?
Oh I forgot the Hero's hairstyle reminds me of someone also with a red herald no who could that be:D

I knew you'd like it. :)
It certainly would've been just caught passing by as it appears only in that scene and nowhere else in the movie.
I can make out the digits as 2876; now karl happened to see these pics. today and told me that a friend of his in B'bay owns a similar White Rover that was also from Madras, and was originally MSQ 2876 (now with a MH 01 regn. though)
So it could be the same car.
Incidentally, its said to have been formerly owned by a British MD of Ashok Leyland at Madras.

I had a hunch this was his car, its definately a Mark III then, Do you have any recent pics of the car, he did get it for the 2006 VCCCI rally but never participated. Needs to go on the Rover thread.

I've never seen the car, so no idea and no pics. I believe it is now blue with silver top.

Some more pics. from another late 70s movie, this one being a Tamil one.
2 Vespa 150s, the first one seems to be a '64-65 model (with the 'elevated' round speedo fitted in the original piaggio meter socket)
An early Standard 20 Van, and what appears to be a WW2 Chevrolet mini-bus.
'cant identify the moped and the other mini-bus.
PS: Sorry, 'wish the pic. clarity could have been better! Attachment 506315 Attachment 506316 Attachment 506317 Attachment 506318 Attachment 506319 |
The moped is the first generation Luna moped (1974 onwards) from Kinetic Engineering. This one did not have shock ups for the rear wheels and is the pre-TFR Plus model.
The mini bus is a Ford. These were also available as truck chassis in our country.
The other mini bus could be a Commer made by the Rootes Group that was later in the 1970's taken over by Chrysler.
A poster from the movie Madam Fashion 1936. Note the nice sports car, maybe an Adler?
Taken, probably from Sunday Midday
Cheers harit
