Ahsaas (1979)

Many scenes of Bombay traffic, mostly dominated by Fiats of all kinds. Here we see a Safari too

If you look closely you'll see a 1947/48 Buick convertible

It makes another appearance soon after, more clearly. This car survives, and I am told same family from new.

That looks like a Plymouth Road Runner Wagon or Satellite Sport Wagon, 1960s most probably.

Aasha (1957)

In this film we see something special - a 1930s Auburn convertible. A similar car was in South India with a Chettiar family, and survives in Indore. I wonder if it is the same.

Re: Old Bollywood & Indian Films : The Best Archives for Old Cars

Satte Pe Satta (1982)

A classic, the movie is memorable for the strange contraption that Amitabh drives. I used to think it was Jeep based, but looking at it now we immediately notice things like the sheer size of it, the unmistably Chevy dash and proportions.

Further study and I luckily found the car it was based on, a 1959 Chevy. Such a shame it was chopped up though.

Not only are your posts detailed with great pictures and information, but the above two examples show what extraordinary research is involved.

Slightly off topic, but that Tata Estate at the back reminds me of the times when mine was in running condition. What a gorgeous car it was. Hope I am able to restore it in the coming years.

Seems to be a Mercury Comet, should be between 1965 and 1970.

Looks more like a Mark-I Ford Fiesta. The Escort from that era had a less hatchback like stance.

Most probably a Nissan/Datsun from early 70s.
EDIT: It is a mid-60s Nissan Cedric 130.

Looking at some of these cars being chopped up/crashed/burnt really makes me sad. One can't help but think that at the time they were destroyed in movie shots, they were most probably 15-20 year old cars with nearly zero residual value. It is quite similar to the present times wherein 15-20 year old Cielos/Accents/Esteems/Ikons and others of similar disposition are massacred in crash scenes in movies. Makes me feel that 40-50 years down the line, people might discuss these cars in a manner similar to what we are discussing here nowadays.
