If not a Fintail Merc, maybe a Peugeot 404?
You must give some allowance for the fact that many cars were not fixed accurately, and body line/trims get distorted. Round headlight ring maybe an inaccurate replacement as the top centre should have a peak. Just guessing.

It is indeed a fintail Mercedes, probably 190 or 200.

Thanks! In fact, my first guess was a Peugeot 404, but as noted there were a number of differences which left me puzzled. Had this been a 404 Convertible or Coupe my next question would have been "Where is it now?"

Do you know this from records or are you guessing. Because there seems to be some distortion.

One 404 coupe is in your city, Doc? The second one has disappeared.
The light in the bumper is the reflection of the wheelcap of the 190SL. And that little bit of chrome next to the indicator light is a part of a spot light. Indeed seems to be a fintail.

Yes. Doctor's car is a convertible, I think.

Not sure if we are speaking of the same car, but the second one which has disappeared from Bangalore, is not a 404C, but a later (1970s/1980s) Peugeot convertible. I have been told it is being restored by a well known restorer in a neighboring state.

Unconfirmed reports of another 404 convertible in Tamil Nadu with an IPS / IAS / Customs (?) officer which was possibly scrapped around a decade ago due to rust. No pics to confirm.

The light in the bumper is the reflection of the wheelcap of the 190SL.

Hi! You are referring to a 304, which was junking in Bnagalore, now seems to be under "work.
There were two 304's and two 404 convertibles I knew of.
The 304's were both in Mumbai at one time, white and yellow/orange. One car went to Hyderabad, from there was sent to Coimbatore, trucker kept stuff in the truck/on the car and broke the windshield. The car was kept aside and rotted, surfaced in Bangalore. Where the other went I don't know. But it must be alive as pictures of it apparently for sale have surfaced.

404's were also two. The Mumbai car, MRH.... which changed colour often yellow, blue, what not. Then there was a black Andhra registered car which came to Mumbai, was also in Indore for a while. That has now disappeared.

The reflection/bumper light joke was not bad at all

This is a 200, these lights at the bottom of a headlight never came in a 190. The 190's had carryover ponton turn signals on the fender. I know cause we had a beautiful 200.
