Re: Unidentified Vintage and Classic cars in India

Spotted this lovely number at a friend's apartment ('60s) complex in Bangalore. Before I could get a closer look at that badge, a man with a stick and a badge that said 'security' came after me so I had to scoot.

I think it's a British car, possibly a Sunbeam? Karl, Harit, please clarify?

Re: Unidentified Vintage and Classic cars in India

this is a willys station wagon , you wont see one too often , but not too rare either. there was one rusting in peace in a kabadi (junk yard) in sumerpur (rajasthan) and ive seen 2 in ahmedabad.
heres a wikipedia link to it .

True that is a Willys Station Wagon. But the chassis is modified to be a mini bus sort of vehicle. These came as Station Wagons and Pick-Up trucks (rare in India) in 2 WD and 4WD versions.

This is a Sunbeam Tourer of the 1920's. I am not sure of the exact model as they had models like 14/40 Tourer and 16.9 to 18.2 HP and so on.

The bonnet mascot is missing on the car you have featured Suhas.

Looks like a 1928 Sunbeam , but as per my records Sunbeam did not come with these rims and the hub.

TNN 7255 has not been recorded earlier on this forum. Thanks suhaas307.

Re: Unidentified Vintage and Classic cars in India

The rims on the sunbeam look very much look like Morris wheels. Possibly Morris Isis six ,with the center screw attachment.

This is indeed a 1928 Sunbeam in long term ownership with a close friend. This car was in Ooty and was owned by a Britisher at one time. My father tells that the Britisher was very possessive of the car and legend has it that he even had the car shipped to England for repairs at one time.

The car has been in Bangalore after the current owner shifted base to Bangalore in the 1980s. I have participated in one rally in this car

Cheers

Re: Unidentified Vintage and Classic cars in India

While browsing through a 2012 issue of Classic & Sportscar magazine, I came across an article on one Josef Ganz, a designer and engineer in Nazi Germany, who's ideas of a people's car bore a startling resemblance to the VW. He was even on a VW pension towards the end.

Amongst the cars he built was the German Standard Super and Superior. This image is shown with the text "putting the Swiss volkswagen prototype through its paces in 1937". Keep in mind here the term 'volkswagen' is purely people's car, and nothing to do with the VW Beetle.

I think it is pretty significant!

Now I don't remember where I got the image from, it was off orkut in 2008. Maybe Bangalore.

Your pursuit of nazi autos is a most worthy task. I too envy the structural and aesthetic values of these '30s and '40s vehicles. The Horch and Daimler-Benz G-4 staff cars, the tracked motorcycles, and the smaller VW-type utility vehicle. I note that the type 181 and 182 of the seventies was a direct retro of this vehicle. Good hunting and good luck with your venture.

Re: Unidentified Vintage and Classic cars in India

Here is a car in Goa that was shared with me - I assume it is Japanese, maybe Datsun/Mazda? Can someone identify it?

Datsun 1960, just google it. May have been a Bluebird, or 1800.
Many were seen in Goa, I have even seen a brown one in Pune, Goa registered, about 22 years ago. Now ofcourse a rare car.

Cheers harit
