Thanks Karl great information. I was always puzzled as to what car could this be? As here the Germans too take out their oldies for Sunday drives.

Borgwards in India? Are there any left?
There was one Borgward in Mumbai, I had seen it around 1975. At that time it was even advertised for sale in the Times of India. It was a white sedan, small, not in very good condition, missing a few letters of the name BORGWARD which appear on the dicky. It belonged to a Sikh gentleman and his office was probably near the share bazar as it was seen there very often. No idea about its fate.
Then there was a Borgward 4 wheel drive truck of which I have pictures. It was auctioned off by the auction house near Lions gate and that is where the pics were taken. It was blue, and I understand that it was bought by some foreigners from Ganeshpuri Ashram. Not sure though. May have left the country like split screen VW Vans are still doing.
When I learn to upload pictures correctly, not the small images with huge white background, then I shall post pics. Karl, Rehan, please consider this request. My picture posts look shabby.
There could always be a Borgward lurking somewhere, last year I saw a DAF in Bangalore, never knew that one had reached India!

Yes Stanher this is the autobahn that passes from Frankfurt to Wetzlar and beyond. The picture was clicked in Wetzlar, which is a small town 70 kms from Frankfurt(village by our standards) with a population of 20,000 but has better amenities than many of our cities.
Thanks harit for the information from your vast knowledge bank. Its news to me that we had Borgwards in India too.

ahh!! One of my Favourite sports cars of the bygone era!! I love the Spitfire. There is one being restored as we speak at a garage in bombay. The same garage is also churning out probably the most meticulosly restored Elegant!

Yes i confirmed this.
My Uncle who still has his machinery showrooms in the vicinity, mentioned, he had a Borgward. Must be the same car. He remembers it. I dont remember seeing the car but i do remember him mentioning that he had a Borgward.

I was at his place the other day and we searched a whole lot of his old pics for any pics of the car. Unfortunately, the only pics he has,of his cars i mean, are shot by me from the time i was 14ish.

I remember him driving a Ford Zephyr, in fact he had two, one was a station wagon, a Austin Cambridge Station wagon and a Biscayne, also a S/W, besides many others (sadly, no pics available of these also, though i distinctly remember taking pics of my cousins bundled up in the boot part of the Cambridge) He now rides in a W211 E270cdi whose pics we have seen, a dime a dozen

Identifying the Vintage/Classic

TBHPians,

I'm starting the thread for identifying the correct models for the vintage/classic automobiles.

start with, here is a Yamaha moped (year of mfg. not known) for your assistance in identification. I'm planning to buy this bike.

It is the 65cc Pearl Yamaha, that was made in India between 1965 and 1971.An excellent, geared (foot operated gears)high-end moped, it came without a clutch. The cost was around Rs 3200 in 1967, matching the cost of the Vespa 150 (later Bajaj 150) and the Lambretta scooters. The factory was in Tamil Nadu and it collaborated with Yamaha of Japan. This is a pre 1970 model as the tail light chrome cover indicates. Later on, the tail light was fully of plastic (red).

I've heard of Pearl Yamahas but first time I'm seeing one i guess!

If the bike is mechanically still sound (engine free) and with papers, you can surely buy it. Good Luck!
