Hi Pavan, was this car picked from Hyderabad and is a 2 cylinder with the final drive being a chain drive? As far as I know this is not a Citroen.

Looks like a modded Austin. Not a citroen at all.

Hi Pavan,

This looks like the Hyderabad car that KPS has also mentioned. We stumbled upon this car a year back before adkol bought his Citroen, but this is definitely not a Citroen. The guy sounded very vague in its description and the pics were very poor. It may even be a home made car from the looks of it

Re: Pics: Vintage & Classic cars in India

It is a very early Lloyd - I had seen pictures earlier from another BHPian, and he had sent it to another friend who identified it as such. Here is a reference model I dug up online - seems pretty similar, if not identical.

Have a look at this Peugeot cycle car. Looks pretty similar, except for the cut doors.

That is a late twenties DKW. It originally had a wooden body which over time was completely destroyed.

The car was then given thsi metal body.

It has a two stroke twin cylinder DKW engine.

Have seen and known about this car for ages.

I don't think it has proper documents of ownership

Re: Unidentified Vintage and Classic cars in India

This car is a bitsa, a bit of this and a bit of that, if I remember there was a Villiers engine installed and some chain drives created.
I left it when shown about 3 years ago. When I saw this for the first time I was excited, thinking what an ancient and unique piece has been found. Unfortunately it did not live up to expectations

If you think that there is a DKW origin somewhere in this car, then there are one and a half DKW"s lying in Bangalore, try to compare the chassis and axles. Citroen and Peugeot, no way.

Cheers harit

Re: Unidentified Vintage and Classic cars in India

A few months ago I received a picture of an odd looking car which was registered in Mumbai before 1940.
It turned out to be a Hudson, I had not seen something like this before.
I thought I would share with an enlarged picture.
It was unidentified till it was put up in a site.

I quite like the front of this car. It's different. I've never seen a car of this model either. The flush with the fenders headlamp must have been quite rare to find in an American car back then. And in Hudson style (comparing to the Post War Super 6 in Cal) the bonnet is really long.

Thanks Haritji

Is there a resemblance to the car posted in the first page of this thread?

You're right KPS. Those headlamps look very similar to the one's on the pic of Harit's car.

The car in KPS's picture is 100% a Chevy Fleetmaster. The headlight rings are painted, giving an illusion of being flush with the fender.

There were other cars with similar design cues (particularly flush headlights, although the form may have varied from round, tear-drop to square) from the Chrysler and Ford ranges around 1938-39. And, I'm sticking with the American cars only, and within that too not delving in to the other features of the nose treatment! Nothing very unique about the overall silhouette either.
