The Ford used to belong to the oldtime fraud "Natwarlal" and since the eighties it is "Lawaris" as there are no owners - whatever could be , has been vandalized . I have kept track of this car when it was complete and the tyres were still inflated , but presently even the engine is not usable , maybe the differential can be salvaged but in absence of a legal owner the car just rots away .

There are 5 other cars in Lucknow in the same situation - rotting away due to lack of any owner

Because they did not want to scrap the car entirely, atleast the body has been reused

The engines of these cars could not suvive the 60 + years easily, see how much difficulty Pawan is having, he has still not confirmed his success!

This Citroen is of about 1926. It belonged to the driving school fellows just a few shops after the bakery, not the bakery.
In the mid 1990's I went there on a sunday and spent time with the old gentleman. The Citroen was silver in colour and was kept inside the shop. I used to see her daily on my way to office. He told me that the car came from a Parsi gentleman in Pune. He had modified the wheels because the correct tyre size was no longer available. And he no longer had the rims.

Then looking around the premises, he had another chassis of a Bantam, complete except for the head. I discussed with Solanki, he having the other Bantam in Mumbai and he told me that that car was originally an open tourer and belonged to a Parsi wrestler or body builder with a name something like Adrian Sandow? Anyhow, in those days all driving schools were required to have a complete chassis on display. Solanki bought the chassis, took some parts in his car, the rest came on a handcart. Later they called back the handcart, sold the parts to chor bazar and did not compensate Solanki.

Subsequently this driving school went on an expansion mode, driven by the next generation and an office was made. So the Citroen came out on the street. Then they painted her red and black. She was seen in some song video also. Then she was sent to Vasu at Worlinaka for repair, all wood work replaced with metal, horrible job. Engine gave a lot of trouble and another unit was fitted, probably Maruti, effectively killing the car.
Short story on this Citroen
Boss I think the name of that Driving School was RAJPUTANA MOTOR DRIVING SCHOOL on Dr. AB road near Worli Naka correct me if I am wrong.

I remember you mentioning this car, how urchins had vandalized it to sell all the metal parts for money to buy chikki! You had uploaded (recent) pics. as well.
Do you have any older pics. of it, would be great to see how it looked in its prime!

And what colour was the car?

I have posted this earlier as well - unsuccessfully.

Hopefully some new members may be able to shed light on what this car is?

Hi Karl,

Could this be the same as this car, a Standard Avon 16 special or Sports - http://www.oldclassiccar.co.uk/class...ndard-avon.jpg

They look similar but for the bumper. Also, with regards to it possibly being a Horch, all the images i checked seem to have a slightly slant grill with regards to a Horch, while this cars grill appears quite vertical, unless I have been seeing the wrong photos for comparison.

Also could you please tell me what is that projection between the engine compartment and the left fender (from the drivers view)? The standard avon also seems to have it.

Thank you,

Srinand.

Re: Unidentified Vintage and Classic cars in India

This car could be an avon only . But I am still a little doubtful due to the bumpers and guards. The drop of the windscreen and the gap does not do justice as its a tad bit higher than an Avon. knock off rims period ? Not an MG for sure. Singer probably

Cheers

The car is not a Citroen, but something obscure, probably Lloyd, cannot remember now.
