Amit, which Bose family is this? I presume from Calcutta but can you be more specific? What a lovely car.

I agree with you Karl, PI, looks like a barrel sided tourer, Grebel lamps and WBA...all of that. Great looking car.

I guess she is a P1, Barker barrel sided Tourer? We can see hints of the curve in the door, plus the trademark parking lights in the fenders. Ventilation cowls and Grebel lights are another identifying factor. Regn seems to be WBA.

I was waiting for Amit to do the honours.

Based on Amit's invaluable photo and identification of the people; and with help from an R-R expert, it is almost certain that the car is:

Phantom I, Chassis 75LF. Barker Tourer, 1927. Later Registration WBA-2355

Original owner was Baroda / C.E.Randle (Gen. Mgr, Bank of Baroda) and later Mr. Bose. Car seems to have been bought and driven overland to England in 1966.

The colour photo was posted earlier (Post 576). The wing lamps at the leading edge seem to be gone.

Some more pics of the Rolls. No idea about the roots of the family.

The present owners have kindly shared this image and chassis card copies with us. The wing lamps are thankfully back.

Is this a recent import by any chance?

A 1937 RR Phantom III has been imported recently as per Zauba.

Hello M,

The car that you have posted isn't a recent import. I believe it's always been here. It was also put on display at the RR showroom in Mumbai.

This is the same car that's posted here :

Anyways here is what was reported in the Times today. Anyone has more details on thos rally? It's a sad thing that we have to learn about Mumbai vintage classic shows from the newspapers rather than the forum itself.

Today is the VCCCI Annual Vintage Car Fiesta in Mumbai. I also came to know about it early this morning, immediately double checked with fellow bhpian and Moderator Moralfibre and he also confirmed the same.

But sadly due to a very short notice and some other commitments, I could not make a quick dash to Mumbai today or else would have surely gone to Kala Ghoda to see these immaculate ladies being displayed.

Next time maybe !

This Phantom II (Chassis 63GN, 1st owner Mrs.Beaumont-Thomas) was last seen in Bangalore around 1953, owned by Mrs. Deasray.

The car was supposedly written off, after being "sat on" by a rogue elephant (as mentioned in the book "RR Ghosts, Phantoms and Spectres").

The story does not seem too far fetched after seeing the following pictures from Thailand!

I believe this is the ex-Viceroy Silver Ghost, Chassis 69-TW which was bought by the Raja of Monghyr / Munger. Shakarpura Raj may well be another name that the Zamindari was known by.

thanks for the info on the RR, however Shakarpura Raj aka Bahadurpur and Munger are not the same, both are different Zamindari's.
