Hey Anjan, if I am not mistaken, that's not a W123 but a W116 S Class. |
True W 116 S, rightly said.

These advertisements remind me of my late father's 1972 model Bullet 350 Deluxe. Attaching some pictures. I remember my mother saying that every Sunday he used to spend 2-3 hours cleaning the motorcycle. I remember he used Minolta Polish to keep it shining.
The Deluxe model came with Chrome on side of fuel tank and front/rear fenders and and chrome rear view mirror.
Both from a 1992 Readers Digest.
Am not a WhatsApp person and hate the forwards being sent with mobile constantly popping up with messages... But got one interesting forward from my Dad.
The quality of advertisements were laudable that it stresses every aspect of the car, rather than a celebrity based ads now. Enjoy the pics.....
Interesting Facts:
- Contessa Booking Advance carried 13% interest
- Cant believe Ambassador, Fiat and Standard Herald were having almost similar pricing
- HM Studebaker 23/24 miles per gallon
- Didn't realize HM had so many variants before Amby, Studebaker, Landmaster, Contessa.
Fantastic eye opener. An era where car makers paid interest on the advance paid! Something that the current crop should adopt.
If we assume 8% inflation per year, these are the ex-factory prices in today's money.
Hindustan Landmaster in 1955: Rs. 14.95 Lakhs
Fiat 1100 in 1956: Rs. 13.67 Lakhs
Hindustan Ambassador in 1972: Rs. 6.63 Lakhs
Premier Padmini in 1972: Rs. 6.24 Lakhs
Standard Herald in 1972: Rs. 6.47 Lakhs
Hindustan Contessa in 1985: Rs. 11.8 Lakhs
Going by the last scan, on-road price seems to be approximately 50% more than ex-factory price.
Couldn't figure out where to post, so posting here.
In 1922 The Marwari relief society had a raffle/lottery draw where the 1st prize was a Touring car, worth Rs. 5000/-

A Veedol advertisement, likely the 1930s.
Allied motors advertisement

An old add of Mini Bullet. " Bullet Blood runs in it".
