Thanks moralfibre. These are great records from the past and most of us have very little or no knowledge if any, about these products.
Of all the dealers mentioned, French Motor Car Co. is still located at the very same address, but is now a Tata Motors (car division) dealer. They earlier sold Tata trucks (before Telco's foray into the car business) and in the 1980's, I remember they had a grotesque, black 1930's Rolls Royce Phantom II parked permanently in their showroom. The Rolls has disappeared now.

I have enjoyed Moralfibres posts. But have noticed that they seem squeaky clean. Maybe they have undergone some digital process.
Recently I got 2 lots of old paper and automotive matter. The first lot has sheets torn from magazines and newspapers, I will sort and scan casually in near future.

The second lot was of newspapers which were used to wrap glasses in 1961 and have now been taken out. The guy thought of me and gave me the paper which I had to gently unforld and try to flatten. Here is one example, Lucas sold batteries in India at that time, and Caltex had a team playing sports. Remember Caltex? They were nationalised and went into Hindustan Pertoleum.

And see, naturally aged paper becomes very yellowish brown:eek:

Hi Harit,

Perhaps I can explain it. If you look at my last post here you can see that in one - the Car Plate one - the back grround is bright white whilst others are all yellowish/brownish base.

What happened was that the Car Plate one while resizing after I scanned it I just used the Autocorrect in the Picture Manager and it came out with a clean and bright background. MF must have done the same as the adverts currently being posted by him are "text based" as well and a clean background make easy reading. The same thing was done on the Caltex with Amby pic one as well

Regarding Lucas Battery - you would remember that they were around in that brand name until late 1980s if I am not mistaken. It was part of the TVS-Lucas group. I think latter they sold the battery unit either to AMCO or Union Carbide

There was a French Motor Co too in Mumbai, and maybe they belonged to the same group which was present in Kolkata. They were Amby dealers, before that some others including Minerva. They had bank issues and their premisis were sold off, a furniture shifted in and now Crosswords is there, at Kemps Corner.
Any guy in Kolkata remembers this black Rolls?

As per the first ad posted on top, from Messrs T R Pratt, are there any surviving Loraine Deitrichs, Clement-Bayards, Scats or Mathis'?

What is interesting is that among the big cities, like Delhi and Calcutta, they have listed Dhanbad as a dealership/presence. Was it because of the coal business.

In the ad for the Swift motor car, the small type mentions that via Telegram or Telephone, complete Specifications, Catalogs and List of Agents can be obtained.
