just learnt that two Russian ZIL 131 trucks (1983 model) were disposed by Airforce Station Jaisalmer this evening for about Rs 1.8 lacs each in e-auction.

BBMP( Bangalore's city corporation) is auctioning a similar van/truck on September 3 , 2014 for Rs 90,000 and above by e-auction. 'Registration number "MYB 9544","Dodge Van-1963" parked at BBMP Hotmix Plant Premises, Koramangala, Bangalore.'
Such auctions are conducted on their 'E-proc' website.

THE VEHICLE CAN BE INSPECTED ONLY TODAY ONLY DURING OFFICE HOURS !

I am not sure how this van really looks. I have never seen her.

I saw at least 6 of them over the weekend in Hyderabad - they're obviously still popular. Probably will go out of service only when legislation restricts the age of a commercial vehicle like it does in Bombay.

If you remember the old movies wherein the police brings a battalion to surround a house for a shootout etc they used to have these trucks. They were a regular sight while I was in school and gradually disappeared. It was shown in a Kannada movie, the name i forgot..Will go and have a look, I stay very close to the place where it is parked, alas if i could acquire it :( Nice find Vinay
