Team-BHP - Hillman Minx

Its a "WILLYS" CJ3B originally LHD, but this one has been converted to RHD.

The Hard-Top is fabricated, the Body has a lot of metal paste (bondo) on it.

The Tub has been stretched after the rear wheel to what is Known as 'Bombay Police" Type(remember the Hindi movies of 70s-80s)

I think Hillman Minx was popular as Bombay taxis in the late fifties.

I remember going to Play School (or nursery as it was called) in the late sixties in a Hillman cab. Was around three at that time and could barely read but i remember asking the cabbie what car it was and thus began my introduction to the Hillman!!

Heres a similar cabrio I spotted at the 2006 Bombay rally. I had also seen this car at a Lonavala rally.

I used to travel in Hillman Minx taxies when I was ion primary school, so Gogibhai is correct. The cars were similar to the one Karl showed us when we were in Pune (that car almost not existing now), that's the one.

The Minx Mark III was the first British car to integrate the headlamps into the fenders with a new "transatlantic" look inspired by the designs of American stylist Raymond Loewy.

It used Hillman's earlier 1185cc side-valve engine driving a 4-speed column shift and a hypoid final drive. This Mark III was produced from Sep. 1948 to Nov. 1949. It had a double wishbone front supension on a monocoque body.

Hillman Minxes were extremely popular in Indian motoring in the fifties and early sixties, especially Bombay taxis which can be seen in many Hindi movies of back then.

ram sorry to correct you but you have mentioned details of the phase 3 but given the picture of the phase 4. the phase 4 is a 1285cc sidevalve engine produced from 1949 to 1951. it did have a convertible in its model lineup.

the phase 3 also had a 4 seater convertible in their model line up

If it is, its a very well convincing job. Wikipedia has an extensive model lineup indicating all early cars were offered with a drophead or convertible.
