A mk1 Herald in Delhi deserving a good home (no, not implying that its for sale!):

'hope it gets saved in time!
And here's a mk1 Herald I'd spotted a couple of times earlier (uploaded some pics. too once) in the garage where I carry out my restorations. This car turned up again the other day for a tune-up. Incidentally, it happens to be an early (apr '61 as per the PUC certificate!
![Smile](https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/images/smilies/smile.png)
) model, and is quite complete with even the original gear-lever knob and air-filter intact! barring some glaring alterations, most noticeably the contessa steering wheel/column (ugh! 'was told it was fitted on the owner's insistence, being easier to maneuver!
![Frustration](https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/images/smilies/Frustration.gif)
) and plywood dash and jeep(?) meters, in place of the original lovely black cardboard one with the smiths speedo, and presumably grey steering wheel and column! :(
Plus, for the first time I noticed on this car, the rear suspension has been modified too, to a rigid/beam axle with parallel leaf-springs (as per most older cars), a common mod done on Heralds back then owing to some owners getting peeved with the original rear axle halfshafts breaking apart. But this is not really a worthy remedy, as the handling becomes a pain with this set-up! For this reason, mechanics eventually (thankfully!) stopped carrying out this mod.
While it is possible to revert to the original rear suspension, it is quite difficult, considering the rear part of the chassis has been buggered up to accomodate the new rear axle, as indicated in one of the pics! 'wonder how the rear part of the chassis, once cut, still managed to hang on if it were 'floating'! Maybe it was joined to the rest of the frame at some other point, couldnt really figure out.
'also wonder why the additional loops welded onto the chassis frame (circled) for fitting a leaf spring end?
Some time back, I'd posted pics. of another Herald, a black one, with a similar modded rear suspension.
