Well, Honestly no.Somehow Herald looks more sporty and classy to be a a taxi.Talking about movies I saw a song "Hey............ paranthu sellum sittukuruvi, parvaiyai thiruppu" in which a beautiful convertible herald pulls a vintage car (cannot identify) throughout the song.

A Vanguard runs as a taxi in "Saadhu Mirandal" movie.

Old Indian movies are one way of seeing all those fantastic old cars in action. I still love the Herald, especially the companion model.

Uh, You mean the companion version of the 4-door Herald (mk3)??

Those were quite rare even when new, never seen any of those in movies (2-door Heralds of coruse plenty!) and I do not know of any on/off roads existing as of now.

I did come across one back in 2001, which I, with very great difficulty, had rescued from going to scrap & helped a friend buy.

1. Selva Magal- "Paranthu sellum"

2. Malalai Pattalam- "Thallu model vandi".

3. I do not remember any song with Vanguard, but the car is seen in almost all the scenes of the movie (Sadhu Mirandal).

I suggest a seperate thread "Standard cars in Indian Movies"

In the malayalam movie, koodevide, there is a hospital scene, and in its parking lot, there is an immaculate standard 10/pennant. In blue and white. I think its a 10, but were they ever offered in two tone?
Also, in the last scene of the movie, there is a Vanguard (series 3??) which is used as a taxi.

Speaking of movies, was watching 'Guru' yesterday. There is a Herald in the scene with Madhavan and Vidya Balan on a road leading into the waterfront.

Standard Penants were produced in India from 1960-62
They did come in two tone colors.
One or two Van guard & Vauxhall taxis still ply in OOty.
There is a herald in Chennai and the owner lends it for film shooting. It looks nice in a movie, but actually not.

While driving back to Pune from Goa, we spotted this nice looking Standard Flying 8 at Kolhapur.

In fact Pune has a very similar looking Hindustan 10 in an identical colour scheme.

Great Karl, Nice pictures of Standard 8 flying, I saw one in Hyd Black
color.

Recently I have seen on Zee TV ads, they are going start new serial
"Rock N Roll" in Standard 8 Flying open top, looks like funny series.
It is going to start from 14 March 2008.

I also seen Hindustan-48 in this forum somewhere in the same colour scheme. Do you see anymore in Pune or Mumbai, please keep coming
such pictures.

Cheers!
