very well maintained..(apart from the choice of wheels)

But i have noticed that not a single herald owner has rectified the rear suspension..every vehicle i have seen has the rear wheels tilting inwards..

cheers..

The Herald has independant rear suspension, and does camber under incorrect loading. There really isnt much to rectify.

Shyam, here is the same car prior to the 2 door conversion.

from what i can see..there is a lot of uneven tyre ware on the inside..and the fact that the rear wheels are the driving wheels..doesn't do much in terms of traction either..

Changing the dampers and the angle of the rear arm mount helps..a stronger axle..trust me..

Check this one out..(They aren't from India though)

Yes Karl. This picture is from India, but where / when...i cant say. Unfortunately i just saved the picture and not the link.

Your VW Type 3 pics are very interesting. Dont at all look like a VW. Maybe it was too radical for VW to go in for a mass production with these looks!

I had a 1972 Type3...cant imagine its one of the same family. Great find.

I learnt driving on a Standard Herald!!!!

Hi!

This thread has really brought up some fond memories, of my Dad's Yellow Standard Herald. 2 Door. He bought it from a small village near Porbandar in Gujarat and restored it. I remember him mentioning that the car was standing in a 'cowshed' with grass on it, unused for more than 2yrs.

What floored him was that it started in the first go!

I learnt to drive on this car when I was 15yrs old. The best part was the 'reserve' tap on the fuel tank ! Stop the car, twist n go!

I'm really happy to see so many admirers of the Standard Herald and Gazelle.

keep those beauties going!

cheers

Dont tell me...this is a real find for us Standard enthusiasts!

Farhan, eat a couple of soaked almonds every morning and rack your brains and find me that link again.

It obviously appears to be based on the 8/10 platform, but a shorter wheelbase and most noticeable is the 2 door conversion.

Farhan, FIND ME THAT LINK!

Kasli, which car are you enquiring about? If its the Heralds, Im told they are for sale, if its the Stanmobile, tell us what it is!

Oh, stumped again Sherlock Bhotes!

Thanks for the clarification......but why would anyone buy a 4-door & go through the trouble of converting it into a 2-door (although not too difficult considering the Herald's bolt-on detachable body) when he could as well buy a 2-doorer (far more easier to find)....
