Don't forget that vehicles from one state also ply in other states without changing the registration.

OK the MDL regn. (and the dots on the headlamp glasses) confirms that this was somewhere in present-day TN. Maybe not Madras could've been somewhere on the outskirts or nearest town. Which might also explain the Herald running with an 'other state' regn. Or maybe it was run only for these wedding ceremonies.

Re: Standard cars in India

Clicked this around 4 years back at Panampilly Nagar, Kochi. 2 of my favorites vehicle when I was a kid in early 90s. Had both of them in the family when I was a kid but I always liked the Standard 20.

Nice to see another Standard 20 fan (and van!)
I used to like them too, though they may not technically be 'classics'. 'had seen a number of them as a kid in Hyderabad and many still running in Madras until around 2002, they've disappeared over there as well since! This was the later version known as Micro, I like the earlier versions even more:

Thanks Stanher. I was more attached to the newer Standard 20 because it was bought the same year I was born.

Had the earlier Standard 20 in the family as well bought new in 1981. Here is a pic of it with dad and his friends touring a hill station in Kerala.

Wasnt this taken at Munnar? And there was another pic. uploaded long ago, of the same gents standing in (and almost completely covering) front of the van?

I used to go to school in a Standard 20 van Not able to find pictures. It was pale green in colour, and had a registration number KLG-9949.

Was it an early one or later one? Both did come in Pale Green as well as Powder Blue besides other colours.

The later one, with a single-piece windshield and a different dash board (not sure if the owner had changed the dials, or it had a different dash compared to the older 20).

Yes they did have a different dash. But with the same instrument dials AFAIK.

There was a early 70's model passenger carrier, Kailas Travels owned by M/s Kailasapathy Oil Mills. They also had a Hillman closed body van for delivering their condiment products.

Re: Standard cars in India

Here's an early (1962) Herald that was recently bought by a friend who owns a Herald 'convertible' as well. Very much restorable I'm told, pretty much with everything intact except unfortunately for the dashboard! The chassis has rotted at the front left side but I'm told its intact otherwise. Looking forward to see her regain her lost glory!

Re: Standard cars in India

This is actually an expired ad on OLX, a Standard Super 10 (with an Amby mk2 grille!) that was for sale in Akola, MH. This is one of the cars with the rare side-trims on! The ad has ended which could mean the car was sold. 'hope it went to a good home.
