Re: "Payana" - The Vintage Car Museum at Mysuru

Visited last week on my way to Mangalore. I was at Payana by 11:00 am and there were hardly 10 people.

A very well maintained museum, yet a lot of amenities are not open for public. Might take around a month or so is what I was told.

Here are couple of pictures which were not posted earlier.

I would say it is a must visit for any automobile enthusiast.

Lovely thread and will add this to my list for next visit to Mysuru. Hopefully they maintain it good and keep this place up for car enthusiasts.

On a side note, seeing a Daewoo Matiz in a Vintage Car Muesum makes me feel Old.

Re: "Payana" - The Vintage Car Museum at Mysuru

Beautiful thread, it would be interesting if there was also a guide or a board which can also decode those old Mysore State (MY Series) Number Plates,

Although there have been attempts in another thread for Mysore State but as time goes by it makes it more doubtful, like Dr. Veerendra Hegde's Standard Herald has registration number MYE (Early registration numbers in India), now MYE has 2 notations, first being Karwar (Early registration numbers in India) and other being Bellary (Ballari) (Early registration numbers in India) from 1958 to 1962, At the same time if you use one of those RTO apps it will show that car has been re-registered to Bengaluru,

Same goes for the Chevrolet Impala in the museum, MER which notates Raichur (Early registration numbers in India), but when you put the number plate in those RTO apps, it will show got re-registered to Bengaluru North

Re: "Payana" - The Vintage Car Museum at Mysuru

Visited the museum a couple of weeks ago, en route to someplace. Beautifully done! Looks great and good feel overall. Looks like there is some more work to be done and more exhibits to come.

On a lighter note, I finally got rid of 2 bikes that were just gathering dust at home; my wife had been insisting I do that for over a decade. Perhaps these are the extra vehicles that the proprietor's family insisted he move out of the house because he had too many! And that Chevy Impala looked bigger than some Mumbai apartments!

When I was growing up near Raichur it was all MYR. Knew of a MG with MYR registration for a long time winning a lot of awards in the Bangalore vintage car circles. That I last heard has found an owner in Chennai. It was owned by an Englishman, his Son tried his best to keep it in good shape after his Dad passed on and guess sold it on

I myself still own a 89 model Chetak with CTR registration. In Karnataka we moved from MY to C series somewhere in 85-86 and then the KA series from 1990ish

Time was when the RTO changed the number when you changed your address. Eg. KA 01 from Koramangala would become KA 36 if sold to Raichur district or KA 16 if sold to Chitradurga district. Nowadays, they let you drive on with the same number. The other day, I saw a KA 36 Dzire around my area with the Driver needing help, I rushed immediately thinking someone from Raichur but turns out he bought the car from a Dealer and is very much from Bangalore! Cars that had KA 01 to 05 registration plates were respected all over Karnataka since they came from Bangalore, it was a first-among-equals situation

Raichur was the only District I knew of that had both KA 36 for Raichur and KA 37 for Gangawati RTO when Gangawati belonged to Raichur district

I didn't know my tables in school but knew what KA 25 RTO, KA 28 RTO etc. was
