The First Odisha Concours d'Elegance 2023 was held at Bhuhaneshwar, Odisha from 9th & 10th December'23.

All the cars were by invitation and were curated by Mr. Dharmaditya Patnaik, who also was the fantastic host of this mega event. Participants were from across the country and this meet was very well attended. Highlights included two fantastic cars with the Odisha provenance were going to participating in this show. There was no judging in the event and the focus was largely on fellowship and coming together of V&C entusiasts from across the country

THE ODISHA CONCOURS D'ELEGANCE 2023


In association with some of the major clubs in the country


The revered Chief Minister of Odisha came to inaugurate the event.


Respected Naveen Patnaik inaugurated the Concours. He hoped that such events will increse tourism in the State.



PREWAR AMERICAN CLASS

The oldest car in this class was a 1920 Moon

Moon Motor Car Company (1905 – 1930) was an American automobile company that was located in St. Louis, Missouri. The company had a venerable reputation among the buying public, as it was known for fully assembled, easily affordable mid-level cars using high-quality parts

This Moon is a 6-42 from either 1920 or 1921, as these were the only two years that the Export Moon were equipped with the six-cylinder Falls engine, which is what is under the bonnet of this car

This is the only known Moon Car with Indian Provinance, surviving in the India

Next is another rare 1930 Hudson, one of the two survivor's known world-wide. Surprisingly the other car too had an Indian connection

This one of the two known Dodge DC8 in India. This model has a 8 cylinder straight engine. It is estimated that in 1930 only 234 pheatons were ever manufactured







During his visit to the Olympia motor show in London in 1929, the 43-year-old Captain—His Highness Maharaol Sir Ranjitsinhji of Baria—was captivated by a remarkable American luxury vehicle: a Stutz. Specifically, he was impressed with the Series M Speedster model on display, which boasted a stylish, spacious coachwork crafted by the renowned American coachbuilder LeBaron. The combination of sporty aesthetics and roomy design caught his eye and left a lasting impression. In fact, he liked it so much that he promptly ordered a 1930 Model M 26, featuring a Tonneau Cowl & windshield.

This is a one family owned Ford B

The Chrysler Airflow is a full-size car produced by Chrysler from 1934 to 1937. The Airflow was the first full-size American production car to use streamlining as a basis for building a sleeker automobile, one less susceptible to air resistance.

For 1936, the Airflow surrendered its smooth backside when a trunk was tacked onto the body of the car.[9] The grille also became more pronounced. Only one Airflow body style, the four-door Imperial sedan (C-10) broke the 1,000 unit mark with 4,259 units built.

The is a Weymann bodied Logonda. It was something I was looking forward to see

Weymann Fabric Bodies is a patented design system for fuselages for aircraft and superlight coachwork for motor vehicles. The system used a patent-jointed wood frame covered in fabric. It was popular on cars from the 1920s until the early 1930s as it reduced the usual squeaks and rattles of coachbuilt bodies by its use of flexible joints between body timbers.[1]

The system when used on cars provided quieter travel, and improved performance because of the body's light weight; but gave little protection in the event of a serious accident, and without care (the materials being prone to rot), a potentially short life. Fabric provided a matt surface and the framework sharp corners. Later supporting metal corner-inserts were employed to smooth corners and the fabric could be finished with layer upon layer of hand-sanded paint, called Tôle Souple, giving the impression of polished metal panelling.

In the context of the Odisha Concours, this car originally being from Odisha royalty was one of the highlights of the show.

The Mayurbhanj family visited the show to see this car. They had fond memories of the car

This 1959 Dodge Custom Royal was another important Ex-Mayurbhanj car to have previously left the shores of Odisha. The car coming back and the Mayurbhanj Royals recollecting stories on this car was wonderful.












This car was my pick and really loved it. The V8 sounded just superb. What a car

POST WAR EUROPEAN

Post war European we a completely different from the American Post War. Cars were much smaller but we get to see more sportier cars





































































































With more that 50+ cars at the Odisha Concours 2023 was a grand success and was indeed very enjoyable.

It was great opportunity for enthusiasts from across the country to bond and exchange ideas.

Special thanks to the curator Mr. Dharmaditya Patnaik, his family and staff who along with the sponsors made this a grand success.

KPS, thank you for the excellent thread with each car properly photographed and captioned for our viewing. Your effort must have been humungous. Oh God these cars can we ogled and drooled over all day. I'm sure you had a role in organizing this delightful prestigious event.

The section that appeals most to me is the European Post-War one. Those cars I can relate to. They were being driven around on our roads in the 1960s. One of my father's bosses, Late Vice Admiral RKS Gandhi had a Jaguar that looked very much like the 1952 one here and once in 1965 he gave my Dad and me a lift in Bombay in that car which I still recall with ecstasy. The journey was from Kemps Corner to Navy Nagar and he stepped on the gas on Marine Drive which in those days was largely empty. :-)

Of course, always lovely to see the darling Standard Herald. I learnt how to drive on it. You never ever forget your first love!

Thank you V.Narayan for your appreciation. Heralds are quirky cars, though but not one of my favourites.

Over the past few years there is much coordination across clubs in the country and they work together for such a concours event. Once the curator defines his requirement, the seniors across clubs work together. Sadly not many Concours cars in South, where the preference is for the driving cars and the collections are much smaller. Mumbai and Delhi have most of the concours quality cars.

Pictures shows the bonhomie across the country, as we discuss V&C cars.



We stayed at the Mayfair Lagoon, Bhubaneshwar. What a fantastic property. Great rooms, food and top class service.

Very rare survivior in India, a D 18S Twin Beech, Douglas Aircraft!





As per the board, VT-CNY was owned by the Maharaja of Mayurbhanj, a princely state in Orissa. The Mayfair Group has saved Odisha's aviation history.

There is also a lovely 1930-31 Ford Model A, Dicky Seater on display

These Rolls are all recently imported into the country, hence with all the proper paper work, they are are easy to register in Karnataka.
