I feel the market for vinatges/classics is less mature in India compared to the west. It will be commonly agreed and accepted that some maturing and new interest has come into the industry in the past few years beacuse of the wealth building taken place in India but sellers habbits have not changed much! I find that more people are intereted in owning & restoring such cars than before and the restorations are getting superior but seller are still in the old mode of doing business despite the fact that more new type of younger, serious and no nonsense (read non time wasters) buyers have entered. The best example of this trend can be seen here on teambhp so the awareness and transparency will point fingures at sellers who are still in the old world. The idea of a market place is to do transactions and it is not in the interest of sellers to play old games which are not relevant anymore. The idea is win win. for both and by quoting stupid prices one gets no where near a sale unless these folks have nothing better to do in life

lets stop fighting here guys.

Both the Beetle's were purchased by that gentleman(Who's also a T-BHP member) for less than under 2 lac rupees.

1)VW Beetle- 1962 1200cc converted to 1300cc, Bright red, with alloy wheels.
2)VW Beetle - 1974 1300cc, stock wheels, Pinkish Red, 50% engine life.

I would price them at around 2.50 lacs for their present condition., any price beyond this for the cars is insane.

Lets stop this debate, there's no point.

BTW Any Classics available for sale?

just it is somebody property doesnt mean that one can quote anything for that when he puts it up for sale in the market place.Because this being a small niche segment where very few items come up for sale there is a high influence in the market by the ''quotes''.
I know a particular instance where a single owner fiat elegant 1100 was on sale ,the owner was asking Rs.35000/- to a friend of mine.My friend agreed to meet him on the next sunday itself.Unfortunately for him there was a advertisement on the sunday classified for a fiat millicento asking Rs.100000/-.The owner of the car obviously saw this and when my friend(he was unaware of this) met him ,he backed out of the deal saying he was no longer interested in selling the car!!!.
Few days later the same fiat elegant was advertised in the paper for Rs.75000/-.!!It is a different matter that both cars have remained unsold till a month ago!!But see, the difference in the market caused by the unrealistic quote of the millicento guy. This is the ''damage 'I meant .
another example I personally know is the case of Maruti Suzuki SS80 whose prices have suddenly gone up and many have accused me of playing an indirect role in jacking up the prices!!!
Hi, yes I owe you a reply, I am waiting for the answer. I did not go there myself, so I have to wait. But soon.

About your example, this has happened 100000000000000000000 times in the past, has been going on for years together, at least since the 1970's, so it is nothing new. So as I mentioned, I suggest you leave it and find another. You cannot avoid that. And this happens even with properties, antiques, no need to get bothered about it. We can start a new thread about cars for which reasonable offers were given, the owner did not sell and later it went to chor bazar, or to a dealer, or just left to rot. If you need only that Fiat badly, then pay 75000/-, otherwise give it the go-by and find another.
See, slowly we are understanding each other, pun intended

Look at the bright side, you may even find a cheaper or better car/model. Believe me, something always comes up.

Cheers
Harit

The early 50's Desoto and the 1930 Fiat Adrita we can get good vintage Rolls Royces from the same years. Too unrealistic prices!

While the cars look good, the Humber seems to be the only one realistically priced. Well, lets see the condition. To each his own.

I remember the Fiat from the movie Parineeta.

Looks like a 30/40s 170/230/320. With horrible spoke wheels.
