Machinery for college students seems to be good idea..
I may sound stupid, what if the car is dismantled and bought in mixed with car parts or as scrap and then assemble it here...Is it possible and will it be illegal?
As far as I know, you cannot get it registered without custom duty paid papers and other papers...
But there are other ways too to get it registered.

It has been done in the past, but it is illegal. Once assembled here there are still no documents for it. Then you must
chadhao local papers onto it, at your own risk. Word gets out in no time in these circles, it's impossible to keep these matters secret.:)

True, TR is the way to get it, there is currently no other option.
I did hear of a somewhat similar Jag in the South which was brought in as machinery for college students to train on! Cutting edge technology indeed for their education:D |
I am given to understand that it is impossible to legally import any car older than 3 years into India, under transfer or otherwise? Or does a potential loophole exist here? ;)

When I saw this pic, I thought that perhaps this is the same Vauxhall which was used as a Hearse in Pune. That was a very similar Vauxhall, cut down from a saloon with twin stepneys in front and wrong tyres. Obviously the rear had the glass box. She was lying very near to East/Main street. When I saw that Vauxhall about 7 years ago, she looked like not being in use.
Talking about Hearses, the was a Dodge Brothers truck in Bangalore which was converted to a bus and came to Pune, there were a Dodge 1947 and Rolls hearses in Mumbai which were subsequently scrapped. Mumbai also had a 1959 Chevy Hearse, not sure of the model:Impala, Biscayne etc. because this was also cut to fit a box.

Uh, about the prices being quoted- I know we were advised not to comment on this...but I can't help it- Rs. 5 and Rs. 18 (only)???!!!
Or are the zeros in both the figures not visible to the rest of you as well?? :D
Cars more than 3 yrs old also is DIFFICULT to import under TR. Import rules for individuals are very stringent. No use attempting at all

To his credit the cars seem to be in spanking condition:). I think its an opportunity for someone to hone their negotiating skills.
If anyone is interested in a '52 Fiat 500C (aka "bug" fiat), there are 2 of these for sale here, with a local mechanic. One has a complete engine but body totally gone bad and no papers, fit for parts. The other had been stripped up for resto, engine almost done (needs piston rings) but with papers. Some parts are said to have been stolen from this car at the time, which is why the other one was bought as a parts donor. Some parts like the seats are missing in both cars.
He will give BOTH the cars together only, quoting 1.25 lacs total.
Although I've seen these cars before, I cannot take any pics. because I once did (he had a couple of Buick 8s also lying in his garage) when I first went to the place last year, for which he'd really fired me later! :(
So I'm sorry I can't take or post any pics. of the cars! I had the ones I'd already taken in my PC but when I had to format it once they were all lost! I'm even apprehensive about going to the fellow's place again, but if anyone's really keen on it I'll have my mech. go over and do the deal.

I find this car to be in the dilema zone, to restore or to be used as a parts car. It seems to be a late model W114, i.e. 6 cylinder, my understanding is that all W114's are 6 cylinder, W115's are 4 cylinder. The body line looks good, side trims are missing but if they are available, then this is a good useable car to be different but it will not be really collectable.
It may be a 280 or a 280E, these versions were introduced in the last years of this model and available during the 1st year of W123. I cannot be a 280S, those were either W108 or W116.
By the way, the collectable cars of these series, W114 & W115 were the coupes and stretch Limos. Rajneesh had a white one in Pune, where is that now?
By the way, in the last production year these were even available in 5 cylinder diesel according to a book I just looked in.
If the price is right, it is a car with potential
Harit I had the same feeling that engine looked strainght out a w116 also later model than year this car is. I saw a white 115 limo without hubaps etc outside holy family with a driver in waiting she definately looked restorable this was 2 or 4 years ago can't recall. Maybe this the Rajish car was it diesel or petrol if my memory serves me right this one was a diesel. she could still be in Mumbai or Pune. Ther is another car with the serum guys in Pune pics elsewhere on the forum.
