The valuation is on the invoice that the importer provides as per my knowledge. I have heard someone has brought down a Rolls Royce and has had it registered. The person is said to be bringing his car for the Vintage car rally to be held this weekend and i would ask him how he went about it, if i get a chance.

Hi Speedy,

Are you talking about the Pune import ? If I am not mistake, they faced a lot of troubles at Customs. The issue is Customs can dispute the figures in the invoice. The Customs have started trawling the 'Net' for info and often try to peg it at the highest value they see.

In this regard some of the listings we see in OLX etc would really play a negative role for a potential importer of vintage vehicle

Hello Ram,

I am not aware of where the car is from as yet, i have just heard its coming for the rally. If its Pune then i presume it would be from the Poonawala stable.

The custom guys do hassle for anything and dispute invoices, but if the invoice is genuine and from a reputed showroom or company i don't think there would be any issues. I shall check with the owner the details and get an idea, i was informed these cars come under the show and museum thing and cannot be registered.

Seems like a mix & match car. A car with a case of mistaken identity.

Though, it could originally been a Ford T or something like that.

What interests me is the price . I mean REALLY! The guy who is selling........Lets not talk about it, shall we? The less said about the pricing, the better. 95,00,000 INR or 1,50,000 + USD. REALLY!?

Awareness should be spread regards to classic cars. Quoting the famous tagline, "Jaago grahak jaago". Well, in this case, both, the buyer (There will be none, let me assure you) and the seller (Yes) MUST awaken.

Agreed some imports have happened. But valuation is a sore point. Customs fix their own valuation and thats it. Apparently,if one is influential this valuation can be fixed.Ask any importer, no truth comes out. Ask no questions, you will be told no lies
