All other discrepancies pointed out seem valid except for the one quoted above, the number mentioned is a mobile number and not an STD code prefixed to a land line number

If you do read the ad carefully it reads " water cooled engine " so it's a sorry Beetle , many modifications must have been made

Cheers

The car seems to be in a good shape. I spoke to the seller, I think he has his eyes set around 4 Lakhs. I had requested him to send me the details/photos of the Chassis plate and Engine. He has not done so. He told me that the petrol engine has been replaced with a diesel. By the looks of it by an OM 616 ( Experts please comment). He also informed me that it is an RHD (all these needs verification). However the asking price seems to be reasonable. If an enthusiast can spend some time to verify, I expect this to be a good buy especially considering 'over the top prices' quoted by so many for the Classics especially the Pontons.

Once the original engine has been changed, it is worthless, be it OM 616 or 316.

Most likely an OM616. An OM316 did not exist. An OM321 and 312 did exist.

Cheers!

Hi, the worth of the car does go down, way down, undoubtedly.

However calling it Worthless may be a tad too harsh because some of these cars have been fitted with orginal MBZ diesels and they also have additional ID plates indicating the model and make of engine etc. For example if the car in question has OM 636 or OM 621 then it would be as close to the 180D series Ponton.

It is worthless because no serious collector would touch it & therefore not much of resale value. Ponton engines inside a Ponton has value, but, not inside any other car

Precisely the point- OM 636 or OM 621 are Ponton Diesel engines, so let some one inspect the car before "we" proclaim it worthless. I concur with you if it's not a original diesel.
