Looks decent cosmetically. However, note the Ambassador like steering + the Floor Shift Gearbox and the Bucket Seats. I conclude that this car is POSSIBLY DIESELISED.

By the way, I would rather not comment on the cost.

Also, note the Fiat 1100D/Premier Padmini tail-lamps. The car is Madras registered.

Cheers!

Good observations. It has treaded decades where 'dieselisation' was a trend. How many would go for importing parts from US in the 80's, when a whole engine replacement could be done cheaper?

I don't know the owner also. But in the first sight it looked fully original to me. I too don't dare to say anything about the price part. No expert in classics

Also note the air conditioner. DEFINITELY DIESELISED. I think I can see a glow plug too.

The Diesel Mill must either be a MB OM616 OR a Perkins Diesel.

Cheers!

But I feel the steering is the biggest let down in this. Avoiding aircon could have been difficult all the time since it was invented.

Did you mean the old jeep-style pull-out switch?

When were these pics taken? 2010? It is a pity that the car seems to have lost its original steering wheels in a couple of years. BTW, did the Dodge Kingsway & Plymouth Beldevere/ Savoy share/ have similar engines?

Because, both were assembled by the PAL.

It pains us classic car lovers, whenever, a good car loses its engine for nothing, in order to recieve an incredibly crude diesel mill.

Cheers!

My questions, do these cars ever get sold at the commanded prices? And if yes then who buys them? Also knowing that the car is lemons will that sell for less? And then for a enthusiasts like me with meagre resources what is the best way to shop around for fair priced good cars.

Government department auctions yield quite cheap Contessas , Bullets, Jawas, Premier Padminis and sometimes even Vanguards, Austins etc in court auction. but they generally need a restoration !

for example, please see Harit's post #3831 , Karl's #3840 , in these columns !

see Foby's #1043 , ajay99's #1046 in classics of malabar columns !!

police stations sometimes sell off salvages of Ford Model A , and Heralds !!

Mining companies sell off Classic trucks and buses of Leyland UK and Mercedes !
Some ESIC hospitals sell off VW ambulances and Land Rovers !!!

Most commonly , the army sells off Gypsies , Willy's , and Jongas!

Manish , I even got a nice RHD w123 mercedes car 200D with a glorious past from the central government last year , for a song !

hence, auctions - never ignore them ! your loss is my gain !

None of these cars sell for even half or less of these unrealistic avaracious demands. Few of these sellers have no genuine intention to sell and they are trying just to gauge how much their precious ''asset'' is actually worth.Yet another category who genuinely want to dispose it will come to terms with reality and sell it at a genuine price :eg:the Impala from kerala which was sold to Bangalore, the Buick super from Kerala (whichgot sold after more than an year or so for about 1/5th the initial asking price in TBHP classifieds)

re: Classic Cars available for purchase

Kindly do not post any statement which reeks of half knowledge. And a 53-62 Mercedes Benz Ponton is certainly not classified as a vintage.

That said, At last! A Ponton that appeals to a classic car freak like me.
All okay, barring some alignment issues and at a very good price. Good Pontons are certainly rare in India. A must buy Though I would still bargain.

The pics seem to have been shot at some V&C Rally. Note the immaculate black Millecento besides it.

The location of the car seems to be in some neighboring locality to Chandigarh.

Cheers!
