Are there any W123's on sale? Preferably in/around Gujarat or Delhi.

Whether it's a fake ad or not, the car looks for real. I am eagerly awaiting to hear which model of Beetle this is from the VW experts here.

It is not a 1947 beetle,from the photos it appears to be a 1966 or1967 beetle(blade bumpers,bigger rear window,number plate light(Not pope nose)

Thank you, Ajay ji. So, do we take it as a '66/'67 Beetle then? Do the other VW gurus concur? It's very confusing for me, but yes, she does seem to have bigger windows, and the other features you mention.

I'd say either a 67 Delux or a 68+ Standard.

Though the pic is not entirely clear, the rear engine lid looks more like the 68+ variety, than a 67.
I could be mistaken.

I find it hard to believe that you had any difficulty in determining that this car is not a 1947 !

If it is what i think it is,its registration is a Punjab number. In a worse state that what I had seen it two years ago. And like someone said.. its someone in the building trying to make a fast buck. With no close up pictures or interior pics.
Someone please call the bluff.

1983 BMW 728i, the first gen 7 series bimmer on sale in Delhi. Seems to be a very attractive proposition.

Well, it's not so much about it being 1947 model or not, but exactly which model (or a rough period block) it is, with some pointers by the gurus on how to tell this model from others. I have observed such immense knowledge available with experts on the forum, especially the Vollkswagen specialists who are said to be the best in the country, that it would be wonderful to be guided by them, I feel.

The car in the photo is definitely a standard version, and not a Deluxe one
1.There is no chrome trim on the Rear Quarter Windows
2.The Turn signal covers are painted, not chrome
3.The abscence of chrome trim on the Running board mats
Regarding the model, by the look of the door handles I would prefer to believe it to be a 1967 one,Only if one sees the headlights one can be certain about that.
Regarding VW expertise, Prabhalji, many of us still remember your detailed article on air cooled bugs in the 1998 AutoIndia(month-October??)magazine on the 50th year of Beetle.!!! So you are actually the pioneer/guide regarding VW specs, history.

I wouldn't hold features like this as points of reference, because most cars have these parts replaced (rubbers and running board without trim). Never knew that turn signal covers were painted on any models.

I'm quite sure it was January 1998. I treasured that issue and read it a million times.

re: Classic Cars available for purchase

Not a 47 Beetle . 1 The back window is too large- postwar VW had a two piece rear window which stayed till the 50s. 2 The engine cover was a very pronounced V shape. It did not have a hump with the License plate and light. 3. The headlights were flush and oval in shape . 4. side windows were smaller - windshield was not curved. AS suggested by others, it is late 60s or 70s.

Although I am sure that you have read it a ""million times'' sorry to correct you that the issue was of December 1998 .
I have wrongly mentioned ""50 years"" instead of "'60 years"' of beetle
