re: Classic Cars available for purchase

Oh thanks for the info. I thought there were more than a hundred odd 180/190s around. If i am correct the 219 is a 220 from the dashboard forwards and a 180 backwards from that point i.e in between size of a 180/190 and a 220s.It has a 220 bonnet but a 180/190 body isnt it??

You mean there are two more in Kerala? The one from Bombay (BML XXXX) went to Bangalore there was another dissambled one that is being restored somewhere. Used to be around Bombay at one time.

The 219 was a six cylinder Ponton with a 220S/220a type body type. However the interior trim Meters etc were similar to the 180/190 cars. I personally feel a 219 is the most collectible Ponton (non-cabriolet of course) purely because there are so few around, even globally. You can say it was a downgraded version of a 220S

Since we are counting Pontons and discussing some models, here a few bits.
There were supposed to be 4 220S Pontons in India with a Webasto roof. One in Pune was scrapped, that leaves three, one green with Titus, one under restoration or whatever in Cochin belonging to a member and active participant of the Fiat club in Mumbai, and one with me.
There used to be a blue 219 in Bombay on Nepean Sea Road, BML ???? whatever I forgot, belonging to a Sindhi gent who used to be a diplomat. I have no clue where that car has gone. There used to be a 219 for sale in Rajasthan, probably Jaipur. With all these wheeling and dealings have lost track of the identity of these cars.
I believe that in all there must be atleast 50 Pontons in India, maybe even 75. Many have been scrapped, but many do survive hidden away.

Cheers harit

This 219 is the same one which went to Bangalore it was bought by one of our Mercedes Benz club members many many years ago, it was subsequently painted grey. Now moved on to Bangalore. Very Very original car. Shown here BMF 5140 my mistake was not BML!

Dear Ajay99 I remember seeing a blue coloured 50's merc diesel in one AutoShow organised around 10 years back. It was a Palace owned vehicle.

Being a newbie regarding Merc's, don't know for sure whether it is a Ponton. Dont know the variant either.
Could it be the blue one you had mentioned in the earlier post?

re: Classic Cars available for purchase

Posting this here as i could not find any relevant thread..

Does anyone have any experience or info on this car dealer in Bangalore:

Sri Mahabaleshwara Service Station near Hudson circle/ Kanteerava stadium. He seems to deal in a lot of imports, and happens to have a Merc W201 that looks interesting..

thanks
Srini

Most of those cars are heaps. Some are dodgy imports or embassy casts off. I beleive he leases them out and they come and go. Lots of "cash flow" if you get my drift

Car Love, you are correct. The 219 was a sort of a compromise between the early 220 (retrospectively called the 220a) and the 220S. The 219 had the long bonnet of the 220a and 220S, but unlike the 220a and 220S which had longer rear doors and rear quarter lights, the 219 had the 180/190 length doors with no quarter lights in the rear. Also for info, the width of all the Ponton sedans were the same, and also from the rear door onwards. That is why the 6 cylinder cars look taller than the 4 cylinder cars.

Best Regards
Prithvi
