Holkar 540k up for sale!

Holkar 540k Cabriolet up for auction.

Quote:
The forthcoming Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este on May 21st is to include the sale of a vehicle that was specifically built for the 14th Maharajah of Indore, RM Auctions announced. The vehicle in question is a 1937 Mercedes-Benz 540K Cabriolet A, estimated to fetch between €1.250.000-€1.800.000 ($1.78 - $2.56 million).
For his Mercedes, His Highness specified factory Cabriolet A coachwork from the Daimler-Benz works at Sindelfingen. The Cabriolet A was a two-passenger drophead coupé, of which 83 were built.

After the Maharajah passed away in 1961, his daughter took over the throne and thus his car collection. Unfortunately, she apparently didn’t share the same passion for motorcars as her father, so the Mercedes in question left India in the late 1970s. It was exported to Britain and subsequently sold to a German collector, and then into the hands of a collector from the United States.

Incidentally Mr Shetty moved to Chembur in the 90's. You are right he passed away in early 2000. The garage was taken over by his assistant Mr Ravi who also moved from there to near starcity. He still looks after my Ponton.

re: Classic Cars available for purchase

Spotted this one on TBhp classifieds. The car, a 1955 Fiat, looks original but the asking price is astronomical. The wiper blades are black and not the original chrome ones. The registration KLT is from the mid 1960's ( KLT 7576 should be 1966 or so) and hence the car must have been re-registered.

fully with you anjan saheb, This car was purchased a few months back from its previous owner by a guy in Cochin for Rs100000/- .
He seems to have spent a lot of money on it. but the asking price as you have correctly pointed out is Unrealistic.

Hi Paresh, it seems I am unable to PM you because I think you need a certain no of posts to enable the PM feature. Mail me the pics at amol.pontonius@gmail.com

I know the previous owner also he was initially demanding Rs.150000/- for it ,but this guy bargained and got it for Rs.100000/-.of course obviously he will not admit that since he has to justify his unrealistic asking price

Any idea the rough number of "S" series Pontons in India? There are quite a number of 190 Pontons, the "E" class equivalent but the "S" series i have not heard of many being around. Any of you have an idea or a thread relating to it.Thanks

The rarest would be

220SE cabriolet-only one
219- maybe 2
220S- atleast 10 if not more
180/190- 4 cylinder cars- not more than 25
