Thanks.

Contact VW Guru Santaji Shirke if you do want to go inspecting this vehicle.

re: Classic Cars available for purchase

They are quite expensive the beetles.

It will probably be cheaper to import one from the UK or Mexio

I dont think that is correct .As far as my info you can import only RHD vehicles and MEXICO is an LHD market.Regarding UK import after paying 160 percent duty on the landed cost how is it going to be cheaper??

Please check your facts before commenting.
Please check sites like Ebay UK, Piston head, car & Classic. A decent condition betel will cost around £2000 which is Rs. 1,50,000 Even if you spend Rs 3,00,000 on import & taxes ( think will be less than that for sure) it will still be less than what these guys are asking.

£2000 is the price i am quoting for pre 1970 models.
There was mint condition one for sale for £1500 which i saw. which was 99% original.

What about registering them? I don't it will be possible to register any of these cars in any metro city of India because of the emission norms unless one plans to get it registered in some small city which would be relatively easier to get it registered.

allana 13,

Active after a long time, well even if you get a fully original splity (split window) for 1$ or 1GBP or 1 Euro. You cannot bring her to India, register and run. Can be bought under carnet but there are many conditions to be fulfilled. Indian citizens living in India cannot simply import and Old car.

So what that means is the even tough the grass is lot greaner outside India, you simply cannot eat it.

You can order spares subjected to clearance from customs.

The rules are very stringent here (RHD,Speedometer in KM's etc) when it comes to importing second hand vehicles, leave alone vintage and classics.

Transfer of residence is one possible way, but IIRC the vehicle should with the owner for more than 5 years.

Under carnet a car can be brought in for restoration for a specified time and the car has to go back. Similarly you can send out a car for restoration but again the car has to come back after a specified time something similar what was done for the restoration of the Rolls Royce 94RF owned by Jodhpur Maharaja.

Also the car has to be manufactured after the 1990's and the invoice has to be available with the car.
