re: Classic Cars available for purchase

Hello guys,

I have come across a gentleman from Kolkata who is interested in selling his 1985 Peugeot Sportif moped. I have been looking for a Sportif for some time now. He claims that the vehicle is in almost new condition with less than 5000 kms of running and most of parts still intact. Also all documents are in perfect order. The asking price is 9000. I am going to need help in deciding upon this. Unfortunately he doesnt have any picture of his vehicle.
Is it possible for any member staying nearby to visit the gentleman and see if the vehicle is really worth the price? I am attaching a picture of Sportif for reference, which was uploaded on the forum by somebody else earlier.

Help!!

There was the Morris Oxford (Bullnose) made by Morris Motors during 1913-14.This is a modded Morris 8, for which the seller is demanding the handsome amount.

I wonder if the car still retains its 6 volt system- not enough to power those air-horns!

Also , how come so many Madras cars are ending up for sale in Kerala lately??

The Post-WW2 Morris 8 is nicknamed as Bulldog since it is supposed to resembles a bulldog from the front. In Bangalore when one says Bulldog Morris it is very easy to identify what car is being referred to.

Cheers

Hi KPS,
With due respect to your knowledge, I would request you to check out this for confirmation:

Morris Eight - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The para about the series E:

The Series E brought a major restyle with a "waterfall" dummy grille, headlights in the wings and the running boards had gone. The car was longer, wider and heavier...........................The gearbox was now four-speed with the Lucas electrics remaining at 6 volts, but now with automatic regulation of the dynamo in a two-brush system. Top speed was around 58 mph (93 km/h).

Incidentally, I remember reading articles about the Morris Eight E where it was mentioned that the car had a 6-volt system, which wasn't enough to power the headlights enough.

These Morris 8s of the late 40s were indeed 6volts, though still featured electric fuel pumps of SU.

I stand to be rightly corrected. My apologies. I have never seen a 6 volt car in Bangalore. Checked with Mr. Sripathy and he confirmed that the 6 volts were very problematic as the pully was very small and battery would hardly charge. Guess most of the cars would have been converted as I have not seen a 6 volt Morris 8 runners in Bangalore.

Cheers Stanher

Quote 2k for that bike.

And the Sportif wont be a Classic/Vintage for another 100 years maybe.

The gentleman selling it is obviously cashing in your desperation and quoting the price.

Hey thanks for your opinion. I know that Sportif is not exactly a classic. But i learnt driving on that so i have emotional attachment with this vehicle. I am already in touch with a local garage owner who has got couple of them. But he has not committed anything concrete yet. So i am trying to get an additional one for spare parts. But yes, you are right about the price. 9000 is way too much..

Help!!
I can visit the gentleman for you if you need pics. Unfortunately I know nothing about this particular vehicle, so if you want me to check out the originality/parts, you have to brief me about the vehicle .
