Wonder what became of it. It had the original headlight glasses with Overland engraved on them in flowing script.

There was an inspection lamp mounted on the windscreen frame on a spring loaded cable spool that could be taken off and pulled to go around the car and fix a puncture or something similar at night. After use the wire just retracted into the spool and the light was back in its holder.

The leaf springs on all four wheels are also mounted in a very unusual pattern.

I have seen pictures of two or three more identical cars in various cities in India.

Saw two advertisements on the teambhp marketplace in the sedans section. It lists one Fiat Millicento with centre light,a 1957 model. The car appears to be quite original but the asking price is Rs 300,000.
Another two door Standard Herald 1964 model is quoted at Rs 110,000.

I can't find the ad now but is it by any chance a green one with white roof, with an MEV regn.? That car happens to be at hyd., seen it parked at a local garage I knew of. The seller online had also mentioned in the ad that "Maharashtra price" is 1.75L!
I was going to try for it (for a friend) but didn't get time since. 'also don't see that car there now.

Incidentally, here is another one, which again I know of:

VINTAGE 1964 STANDARD HERALD CONVERTIBLE, hyderabad, India 2661347

I had seen this car nearly a year ago, and price quoted then was 1 L+
'had refused it because of that and also because it is NOT an original convertible unlike as mentioned, anyone could obviously make it out.
I'm not surprised that it still hasn't been sold!

@stanher - this is the ad:

Team-BHP Classifieds - Classic Vintage (since pre 1965) Car-Standard Herald - Powered by PhotoPost Classifieds

The seller stays very close to my house. I had called him up (another person had expressed interest). Turned out to be an ex army Colonel who wouldnt tolerate casual enquiries. So never had the guts to go down and check out the car.

Call me if you're interested. Wouldnt mind visiting the Colonel for the heck of it .

Thanks but no thanks pw!

In fact, coincidentally, I was intending to tell you if I came across any standard for sale in your city!

Well, seeing the pics. of the car, I don't find it too exciting- the later date regn. notwithstanding, it'll need a lot of work to get it into proper shape, so if it's as per the price anjan mentioned, it's not worth it!

But at that price, it will remain unsold for quite some time so you could try your luck later if you're inclined!

Superselect from calcutta!

Hi,

In case anyone's interested, I've heard about a black Fiat Super-select with a WBB (calcutta I presume) regn. that's come to the local scrapyard. My mech. just called me up and said the car is 90% original; from his description, sounds like good enough. I'm told the scrap guy has the RC too.
I couldn't go to see it today as I'm not feeling well....!
But will definitely try and go tomorrow for pics.

This sounds like it could be a good project for any budding fiat buffs from Calcutta, and I do hope she gets saved. Do pm me ASAP in that case, or email me: eskaycee@gmail.com
as I can't promise how long they'll hold on to the car!

Good luck!
