A sad turn of events.

This imported 64 Delight was a well known car in Bombay for years together. It was always in immaculate condition, beautifully maintained with plenty of cool period accessories like genuine Alfa Romeo side indicators (see pic for reference)

and a Fiat 124 front monogram. See those goreous bumpers? They are different to the Padmini units, and will gleam for a lifetime.

Since the last few years however the car was neglected, and reached this state. Cyrus had given me these pictures. I recognised the car, and knew that the family was very shaukeen, so figured they wouldn't sell it and left it at that. I recently heard though that the car was scrapped in chor bazaar for 15k! The saddest part is that Cyrus was offered the car for the same amount and didn't purchase it, and forgot to inform us too. Sigh, what a pity.

Cyrus, I do hope you will keep us in mind in the future for such rare, exciting and above all cheap cars!

Karl, this is REALLY heartbreaking!! Man, those bumper badges......and that period-looking tachometer (similar to what you found on the scrapped 55 fiat you took parts off, right?)

I CANT believe Cyrus dikra ignored such a rare, original, salvageable car- that too so d@rn CHEAP!! :sob: :(

Cy, Why?! :sigh:

'guess I'll find it difficult to sleep tonight!!

Actually the tacho looks Jap to me, but a very cool unit. The remains of the one I have is a genuine British item, I date it to the 40s/50s.

Cy, how could you let such a lovely car go? Even if dad didn't let you buy it, you could have passed it to other members of the FCCCI?

Sigh, what a pity!

Mry 7678 - R.i.p.

I knew MRY 7678 and the owner, for over a decade. It was a very well maintained, genuinely all "ORIGINAL" Italian Delight around. In its good times, everytime I saw it, I used to envy those Italian Bumpers, guards and Tail Lights. But it was "NEVER" for sale. I was really in love with this car and partly got inspiration from this one to buy a similar one - my identical steel grey but LHD beauty MRY 9501 way back in 98-99. Believe me, these were the BEST two period ITALIAN 1221cc DELIGHTS on Indian roads. The bodyline still looked so good in its neglected condition. I would have loved to restore this one along with my other projects.
And it was surely worth much more than 15K that it was finally hacked for.

Maybe Cyrus was too busy with his nose job Next time please report such a car to all FCCCI members. If you are not buying it may be someone else can. Such good cars should be saved in future by all of us.

Regards,
Adheesh Parelkar
