I haven't seen these last of the Delights with a silver meter or President guards - the ones Ive seen have conventional Delight bumpers and guards, and a black faced speedo. Perhaps there were a few variations.

See you on the 15th.

Thanks, Karl.

Yes, I don't know why either, but somewhere in the subconscious it's etched as 'Delite'. It's also as if I remember our '70's users' manual saying Delite too, but then I was only four at that time! So could just be a conversation at home discussing the nuances between the two spellings that left an impression. You know how difficult it is to shake off those early ones...

The late 1100Ds and the early Presidents (in '72) had a lot of commonalities, as the switchover from Fiat to Premier (upon the break-up of the JV, post nationalisation) was being effected with a slow hangover. So the last of the 1100Ds had most of the trappings of the President, but the identity of the 1100D! (This Bombay cab is a little odd in that sense as the meter is still of the old 1100D, while the overriders might be of the late 1100D or could have been changed if the meter's right!). In fact, I may be wrong on this bit though, I think the script on the horn button and the front badge on the grille had gone 'PAL' too within the old Fiat exterior shape and dimensions in the last of the Delites.

See you on the 15th. I'm in situ already.

You are right about this point, but these were fitted to the Premier President, not Fiat Delights. In 75 (ish) when the Padmini was introduced, the logo changed to the diamond shape that we are now familiar with.

All this delight-full talk had made me post this pic. of a rather nice later delight (short rear bumper) I spotted in Secunderabad today.
This is a kind of "sneak pic" hence that odd angle at which the pic. was taken!

Its been fitted with President hubcaps, apart from the usual non-original padmini stuff. Neat car though.
then tell me something what's the "D" symbol in the 1100D badge?? because the SUPERSELECT/SELECT had a similiar badge at the back. is it DELIGHT or DIESEL or something else. its a bit confusing to me. also did the delights had horn reems in the steering wheel or was fitted with the padmini type steering??

Fiat 1100D - Delite/Delight
Fiat 1100 - Select/Super Select
Premier Padmini 137D - Diesel

D stands for Delight of course. And this badge was fitted only on delights, no other models of the 1100s, definitely not Selects/S.selects.
Check any original select/superselect, they'll have a badge saying "FIAT 1100" in a straight line, as seen in the pics.
Its just that a number of people even with older fiats (including even '56-'57 ones!) fitted the 1100D badges, either becuase the original select badges are difficult to get, or maybe to just give an "updated" look to their cars!

The drive was indeed fantastic and very well organised. The tremendous efforts taken by Mr. Subhash Karmarkar, Karl and other FCCCI Pune members very much visible. Kudos to all ! Attached are some of the pictures.
