This car has really turned out unexpectedly well, cool shade and cool wheels. Very tasteful. Hope she is also well sorted and keeps running.
But the car is good from far and far from good, just the way she was when brought to Mumbai. When this car arrived outskirts of Mumbai, I was requested by a dear friend to get her in. Mechanic went with minimum spares, brakes finally gave up and she had to be towed. On that day the roads were jammed, it took a Thane tow truck 2 hours to reach and 3 hours to return, past midnight. She was kept at George Motors, brakes were fixed and then the car was relocated. Since the list of jobs to be done was big, I myself went to have a look. Here comes the part good from far, the body was so rusty and the seller cleverly covered all the rust spots with black insulation tape. The rust did not show in the photos. So she was really far from good. Anyway, it was then decided to stop mechanical work and the car moved on.

The car is still not a concourse winner, but so much better. The only thing I feel is really missing is the 1100R monogram at the rear. Maybe this can be cast, better to do that as it is bound to land up on a rick anyway.

I don't know what it cost, but I appreciate the effort and work put in.

Cheers harit

A black Dukkar was spotted in the open parking area of a building named SPENTA near hanging gardens.

Looking sad in the rain, windows down, water in the car. Karl, what are you doing???

Thanks for sharing, I'll look it up. Some years back there was another black dukkar at Spenta. In safe hands now.

The intention was never to make it a Concourse car, but to make it a user friendly car. The rear monograms are needed and the search is on, incase we don't find it here, we shall order them.

Thank you. Your and everyone else's appreciation is the cost of the cars restoration.

Re: Fiat Classic Car Club - Mumbai

Hi

I have a 1957 FIAT Elegant (a.k.a. Dukkar). It is in Ratnagiri. I am trying to restore it with my limited funds.

The gentleman who will be doing the work is an old hand (He's just turned 70.) with these cars. (He used to work for the Swadi workshop for some time and later had his own place in Mumbai before moving to Ratnagiri, his home town.)

I need all the help possible from the FIAT gurus here.

Is there anyone who could provide me with the workshop / service manual of my car?

Where does one procure the body parts of this car? How does one identify the correct parts? Are there photos / drawings available that can be used for this purpose?

Please help.

Thanks a lot!

Dear Sir,

Thank you for your help. Sorry about the delay in responding. It took me a while to go through the thread.

Last week, Mr. Behram Dhabhar very kindly consented to meet me in this regard. He gave me a whole lot of information and some very useful advice.

Mr. Dhabhar had read your reply to my query. He mentioned to me that you reside at Shivaji Park, Dadar.

Would it be alright if I were to call on you to see your car and hear about your experience with it?

Since I'm a 'newbie' here, I am unable to send you private messages. Could you please PM me your contact details, so I can call you to discuss this?

Thanks!

If you can't send him a PM, you won't receive them either. Try and use the "Send a message via email" option if that is available to you.
