Re: Fiat Classic Car Club - Mumbai

I spotted a Black 50's fiat BML or BMO 65 at andheri. The car seemed in reasonably good shape and was being used by an elderly couple.

Possibly it was BLO 65. We often see the 2 digit series on these older cars in the BLO series (reregistered in the 1980s). BLI we usually see 1xxx.

On BML and BMC mostly 3 digit and under were issued to bikes.

Probably the BLO series then as i just got a glance of the plates. The car was on the opposite side of the road heading towards the highway.

In the picture below of a Super Select, isn't the rear windshield that of a Padmini's?

GTO may I suggest that you have a part resource thread for classic car suppliers within the Vintage and classic car section.

It should be a closed thread where only moderators who are conversant with the Vintage and Classic car section be permitted to add names and contact details of suppliers etc. Members of the forum can recommend addition or deletion etc to the respective moderators. The problem with posting resources on regular open threads is that after a point of time they get lost in all the data and jabber. regards amol the mole

Re: Fiat Classic Car Club - Mumbai

A FIAT ad from the 1950's.
Premier Automobiles was supposed to have been founded in 1947, and production started in 1949. Probably Chrysler products were first, followed by Fiat's. Does anyone know when the first Fiat's were built by PAL?
Unfortunately there is no date in the ad.

Cheers harit

I would reckon twas from the early 50s, starting with the Fiat 500c topolino and there was also a bigger 1500/1400 sedan. 'remember seeing an old ad scan in an article by Autocar India years ago.

Precisely this advertisement is mid to end 1956 when the elegant replaced the earlier Millecento with the three slat aluminum grill. This advertisement is proof that the car when launched in 1956 in India indeed came with the previous models rims and hubcaps. My Fiat is from this early batch.

Saw the black BLO 65 yesterday evening just ahead of Linking Road. It's in fantastic shape. And the gent surely loves it, to keep that way.

The wheel caps, they ate different. They look exactly like the one on rony's super select. Export model ones.

I thought for a minute you were gifting me the matchbox. Anyways that is vijay mallyas Cadillac at the back. This was the last time my fiat went to the VCCCI rally and after the judging happened I was curtly informed that it was a non classic. The judge was your old friend.

No my cars do not get invited to the zoo, prefer to go there in newer cars :-)
