Hi, as you are living in Mumbai, plsss proceed to sion koliwada for ALL your Fiat parts needs. There are still plenty of old guys who are still having perfect knowhow of Fiats. As for parts everything is there in shops in koliwada.

FCCCI - Mumbai Drive to Cafe Mondegar, Dec 30th, 2012

Another FCCCI-Mumbai Drive and Meet for Brunch at Cafe Mondegar turned out to be a FIATFUL Sunday with a lot of interaction, photoshoot and of course the yummy menu.
The winter weather couldn't be better and the bumper to bumper convoy of one better than the other Fiats was a sight enjoyed by all around.

In short the 5 F's well complied.
Now let the pics do the talking.

Re: Fiat Classic Car Club - Mumbai

An enjoyable Sunday morning indeed. My favourites were the father-son duo's two lovely Delights - the latest addition being so original and untouched, can serve as reference to many for their restorations.

Re: Fiat Classic Car Club - Mumbai

'came across this pic. of a 60s 1100D Bombay taxi, I suspect it is an original 1100D despite the lack of originality (still seems to have the original large steering wheel intact though). Must be scrapped by now:

Also these pics. of a Superselect taxi had been posted here earlier...I remember reading that it was saved in time from getting scrapped after the law of scrapping 20+ year old taxis came into effect in 2008. Any idea on its current whereabouts?

Also a treat for Fiat fans, happened to find this episode from the 80s TV serial Waghle Ki Duniya, where Mr. Waghle gets duped into buying a used car, a '62 Fiat Superselect, which later proves to be troublesome and he eventually resells it to the same dealer, at a loss. I remember watching this episode as a kid, but was under the impression the car was a Black one! until I saw the episode again now!

Any idea what make the old Black car is?

Re: Fiat Classic Car Club - Mumbai

Hi everybody
As far as I remember the person I saw on aspire programme on bloomberg is the same gentleman standing alone with MTJ 648 wearing a greenish blue checked shirt.
Regards

Dear Shyam - hello after a very long time. MRK is a 1978 taxi series of Mumbai. A Parsi gentleman had bought MRK8473 taxi brand new in Dadar Mumbai in 1978 and he used to operate it also so I know. I was in my second year of engineering in VJTI Mumbai and I have seen MRK8473 being used and then seen it deteriorating also. He sold it long time back.

Best regards,

Behram Dhabhar

Grille type - honeycomb grille was introduced in 1986 in Sabbia / Ellora and Pale Lilac Economy model cars, so it did not exist in 1976 (thank you Kishorelal, you are correct). In that year, as per my colleague, standard cars had black grilles but with horizontally oriented openings, Deluxe BE and Deluxe cars had chrome grilles with horizontal oriented openings. Black grille is extremely hard to find these days.

Hope this clarifies.

Best regards,

Behram Dhabhar
Hi Behram,

The black grille was available when I last inquired in 2008. Rs. 110 for the black one & Rs.120 for the chrome finished one.

Just to everyones amazement. the entire exterior refurbishment trims, excluding bumpers, but including headlamps can be bought for less than 1500 rupees. You dont even get a single headlamp for many new cars at that price

Reminds me of my dad's taxi which we were forced to scrap after 4 decades.

I have quite a lot of childhood memories of this car. My dad was heart broken when it was scrapped. I wanted to gift him another private car of the same era, but unfortunately a lot of them were quoting ridiculous prices.

Yes I remember seeing your pics. and your posts about your ex-taxi. However, I remember you mentioning that the body wasnt original and was infact swapped with that of a scrapped Army car?

No army connection, but the car had been rebuilt several times over. 42 years and 9-10 lakh kms would be too much for any machine.

Till the 1980s, taxi passing was quite an ordeal. The whole car had to be refurbished and I remember my dad spending 3 to 4 weeks every year to get it in top shape. Nowadays, I am told it takes about 3k and you can even get a handcart passed off as a taxi.

We used this taxi for several family functions and it was also the first car I learnt on at the age of 12 (though my dad allowed me to take it out only when I was 18 and got my licence). I was dropped to college on my first day in this car and also to the airport when I went abroad for the first time.

Early 80s was a tough time and this taxi was the only earning member of the family back then. My dad has rushed so many accident victims to hospital in this car.

I could keep talking about it forever
