Need a lot of guts and overdose of passion to drive convertibles over long journey's in India. Intrigued to see the likes of 356 speedster being run on such outings, I could at most drive such a precious car in EU or US on road trips. This includes the others in the lot which me be more valuable. Please share some details of their route, its length and any other details of their trip. No guts no glory?

The Madras Heritage Motoring club is having their annual display, parade and concourse on Sunday, August 4th, between 8am and 12noon. The venue is at the Don Bosco school, Egmore. The Morris centenary is also being celebrated that day, as a part of the event. There could be some new entries too.

Pics. from me of today's I-day show by Deccan Heritage Automobile Association. Really relieved to be able to see a rally/show happening in Hyderabad after about a year now, as the last event (26th Jan) was cancelled due to some political issues!
Unfortunately I wasnt able to drive down in my Herald as it currently doesnt have the roof on due to some work being done on the latter, and the incessant rains forced me to drop the idea of driving it down 'topless' though I was prepared to do even that!
However, I did get to ride along to and from the venue in my friend Varun's 1955 Fiat 1100 (seen here), which I equally enjoyed!
Unfortunately again, we were quite late and I was fearing all the while that the show would be over when we got there, but fortunately most of the entrants were still there and it went on until 1 more hour!

Enough words, here are the pics. (SET 1)..this time cars and bikes all mixed up (a bit too tired to segregate them, sorry!), starting with the car I spotted first as we reached!
Incidentally, this Herald previously belonged to our team bhpian wasif!
Got many UK-market accessories and fittings now. I like the aluminium Triumph Vitesse bumpers. Interesting horns there!

Surprisingly there was a smattering of mk2 Ambys for the first time! A few first-timers too. Some regulars missing though.

From the wonderful and big stables of cars at Hyderabad, this is a very disappointing level of participation. Among the Southern states, I guess Hyderabad is blessed with many surviving great marques cars and some very big collectors.

The reason for the low participation is not difficult to gather. There is just no excitement in this event. Cars are just parked opposite Secretariat and people are expected to come and see the cars. Owners are normally at their wits end to ensure that their cars are safe.

Unless Deccan Heritage Automobile Association can bring in excitement like a drive through the city, a good place for breakfast/lunch etc, the turnout will continue to remain poor. The drives are the most exciting part for most owners, followed by the bonhomie of the participants over food and cool drinks.

Hopefully we will see some better participation at Hyderabad in the coming years.

Yes I do remember that there used to be more cars participating and many from well-known collections too. We sure do miss them. And there used to be a different venue from the present one, I remember the first time I attended back in 2005. There was even a drive around tank bund then.
I'm not sure if it's right but I suspect the present venue (Lumbini Park) being opposite the Secratariat poses security restrictions on drives etc. If that is the case then IMHO a different venue such as the previous one at Sanjeevaiah Park would be more suitable. And yes, 'agree with the part about the public at the venue sometimes getting out of hand! I once had to tell off a guy who was fiddling with my Herald's door mirror in one of the previous shows!
Not only Deccan Heritage but there used to be even rallies/shows organised by other bodies over here until a couple of years ago!
The present/ongoing political situation in this state could also be a reason why the enthusiasm has thinned down here lately.

No Stanher, I have not come to any rally at Hyderabad. My Dad had come in the early 1990's with his friend. They came in a Sunbeam (Ex-Kholapur) and a Riley. They were put up in Taj Krishna. The Sunbeam won a prize of Rs. 25000/- for the best restored car. The Riley got the 2nd prize and Rs. 15000/- also for restoration. Both the cars were restored by Mr. Sripathy. The Sunbeam is now in Dharmasthala and Riley is now owned by Addisons, Chennai (re-restored by Team CSA)

Events in Hyderabad were always king size in those days. I remember the DKG's dad and uncle coming in the Packard and La Salle, a Hudson also came for the Bangalore event on a reciprocal basis. The Hyderabad cars were great marques and the owner were big people and guys like me used to be in awe when they came to Bangalore.

I only wish the Hyderabad rallies regain the past splendor. In the whole of South, there is nothing close to the collection of marques available in Hyderabad.

Wow, awesome clicks! This sure puts me to shame!

Incidentally the red and white MPE 554 Lambretta LD was mine for a short while back in 2009-10. twas painted in a military green (kinda liked that though!) when I bought it, though this is the original colour combo.
Missed seeing it at the rally this time though as it had left before I came!
Good to see it well-restored now.

Just returned from brunch at lower parel, some nice cars displayed including aPackard coupe, couple of Rollers, an Alpha , a pontoon and an Armstrong siddley limousine.. The same Armstrong was for sale a while back, offered to me at Rs X, within a week bought by a broker and offered at 2X. Wonder go finally bought it!

No one having responded to my earlier post , I wonder, no one taking cars to Poona for the show next Sunday???.
