Re: Barn or Garage Finds in India

My father used to tell me about this particular Nash in Bangalore, tucked away in an area which was accessible by a few. The car was fortunately stored in an open shed with a roof.

This is a 1947-48 Nash four door fastback sedan is largely intact. The good news is that the car has been rescued, and the new new owner will start restoration soon.

Re: Barn or Garage Finds in India

Here is another fantastic barnfind. 1958 Chevrolet Impala with optional "Level Air" suspension. The is a 2 door hard top!

Quote:
The Impala was introduced for the 1958 model year as top of the line Bel Air hardtops and convertibles. From the windshield pillar rearward, the 1958 Bel Air Impala differed structurally from the lower-priced Chevrolet models. Hardtops had a slightly shorter greenhouse and longer rear deck. The wheelbase of the Impala was longer than the lower priced models, although the overall length was identical. Interiors held a two-spoke steering wheel and color-keyed door panels with brushed aluminum trim. No other series included a convertible.

The 1958 Chevrolet models were longer, lower, and wider than its predecessors.[11] The 1958 model year was the first with dual headlamps. The tailfins of the 1957 were replaced by deeply sculptured rear fenders. Impalas had three taillights each side, while lesser models had two and wagons just one. The Impalas included crossed-flag insignias above the side moldings, as well as bright rocker moldings and dummy rear-fender scoops.

Hi KPS, Thank you for this post.

We'd love to know the history of this beautiful car. I am sure there won't be much of such cars in such original condition. It is so intriguing to see that there were people back in the day who had the means to get such a piece of art on our shores. Please share the details of how this came here, who is the present owner (if possible), the city where it was found. Pretty sure that there are other members as well who would love to know more about this 'American Icon'. You have me hooked!!!

Thanks to Mr. Subrata Roy for allowing me to share these pictures here.

This 1935 Austin 10 Colwyn Cabriolet, is now being restored. A rare body style for an Austin 10 in India, is there any other known ?

This is a superb find. Amazingly original considering the way she has been stored. Very rare body style. Kolkata has a lot of Austins.

There used to be a Austin Ruby in this body style, in Bangalore. I wonder what happened to that car. It was restored by Sripathy and was a runner.

Cheers

Re: Barn or Garage Finds in India

I found this 1938 Chevrolet outside Thousands Pillars Temple, Moodbidri. Not exactly a barn find , but as we stepped outside the temple I saw a house with a huge gate and something just told me that there would be a vintage car parked inside. Peeped in and saw this. Anyone has info on this car.

Doesn't look very original - the headlights look like auto-rickshaw lights, Enfield indicators on the bonnet

Hello everyone,

I just came across a beauty which has been sitting in my hometown and unnoticed for quite sometime now. It is surely a shocker for me, as I've dreamt of owning such a car since childhood. It is something which you rarely find in India and never thought would find something like this in my hometown. I am going to keep this Alfa Romeo 1600 Giulia TI and try to get a hands on restoration on this one! The car is surprisingly quite intact and has all the bits and pieces in place where they should be, has all the original trims and it is a low mileage car. Owner was a friend of my great grandfather and now his son who is settled outside India has taken a promise from me, not to sell it, get it back on the road and just drive it!
Attaching some images of the current condition of the car. Cheer!!

Great Find and Congrats Kartik, Seems you belong to Amravati (MH-27). Alfa in Amravati is surely a pleasant surprise. Place had a plenty of Fords and Chevys around in earlier times. All the best with Restoration and hope to see it on road soon.

Thank you! Yes there were a handful of Chevys and Fords, in fact this Alfa used to share the space with a Fleetmaster or so I've been told.

Thank you, yes thinking of going about the same way with the restoration. Yes will get to know the true state of thing's once we get our hands on the car, but it has been sitting for quite sometime! So I don't have a lot of expectations, hoping for the best though. 👍🏻

I am so pleased for you but I envy you!

For an Italian car, it looks amazingly intact without too much corrosion but god knows what lies underneath. Luckily this is India so repairing sections will be a lot cheaper. Parts for these cars are now rare for am sure folks like Jeroen can direct you to Alfa spare specialists etc.

As KPS stated, get the mechanicals sorted first!

Thank you,

Yes amazingly it is quite intact and yes hoping to source parts from a genuine person. It will be a learning process and hopefully this one doesn't rob me of my money
