I havent been there, but I used to see the Select BMF 9337 often. Haven't seen it in a while though.

He also said that Wooden number plates were an option but then they would not have looked nice on the car.
Even if he stuck with the present-day white with black lettering, he could've atleast used a more 'period' font, like the stencil fonts used especially in the south. I've used it on both of my (restored) cars' numberplates although I changed to the white plates.

Wooden plates?? Did they ever officially exist on cars here?

I agree with you shyam, he could have done that. Stencil font is available with every if not most number plate makers.

Wooden plates i don't think ever officially existed its more to give the car a period look which most times turns into a disaster in my opinion.

Here is a pic of an interesting SunBeam from one of the Delhi runs. Seems to be a Maharashtra car going by the registration number. Any more details on the car?

I last saw this car a few months back in Bombay. It had even attended rallies in the past, red colour. I assume it is now sold.

That's an amazing transformation, I couldn't believe my eyes. Awesome, Awesome, Awesome. I am sure this Dodge will not only be a headturner but it will be a King of the Roads. Great car thanks Indrojitsircar for sharing this picture.

1949 (?) Vauxhall Velox in Dadar, Mumbai !!!

Spotted this 1949 (?) Vauxhall Velox inside one building compound on Veer Savarkar Road (Cadell Road, Dadar) in neat & good condition, owned by gentleman Mr. Bandekar, a garage owner from Prabhadevi.
Met the owner & he told me that he bought the car in 2003 from Ahmedabad & the car is a daily runner & completely stock. He also used to have 1934 Ford which he scrapped 2 years back.

Re: Pics: Vintage & Classic cars in India

@ Ravi,
This Vauxhall is in the compound of a building right opposite to SBI Branch on Veer Savarkar Road, on the corner of the lane going towards Kirti College.
In the lane that goes towards Kirti College, you can also see Willys Jeep along with a black colored Fiat Select.

I was trying to match the car from its Mumbai days to current Delhi status. I noted the following changes

1. Colour from red to white
2. Lost its wind screen
3. With the wind screen gone, I guess the canvas roof had to go too
4. The wheel rims appear different
5. SUNBEAM appears above the grill
6. The Bumpers are different
7. The head lights get racing guards
8. Side Trims added
9. Mirrors on the fenders
10. Some logo on the bonnet center
11. The wooden number plate which seems to be a "Delhi Special"

Please add if I have missed something.

Cheers
