These pictures were taken at a vintage car rally a few years ago. Since this was a public event and many magazines published pictures of the event I am not blanking out the number plates

hey neat stuff...keep them coming!
which year was this?

a real eclectic mix of cars there...the omni present austin and morris, to beauts like a pierce arrow, armstrong siddley, and my personal fav, the cute lil metropolitan...quite a rarity...

the crimson merc cabrio is bhogilals, as are many cars from this show....i remember readin a lovely piece on this car in BSmotoring...the car was the maharaja of sikkims i think....he had just a few miles of motorable roads in the state, so when bhogilal acquired it, it had covered just a few thousand kms...

and bhogilal was quoted as saying that the lovely red rolls in these pics was not painted red, but "sindoor!"

Swan Car Nabha

My dad visited amsterdam recently, so i made sure he visit the Louwmann Collection (http://www.louwmancollection.nl/index.htm), purely to have a look at the "swan car"

excuse my fathers poor photography skills.

Robert Matthewson, an eccentric Englishman staying in calcutta, in 1909 commisioned the car from J W Brooke and co...reputed cost of the car was between 10 and 15,000 pounds, an equivalent of 6 new rolls royce silver ghosts, the museum catalogue says.

a peculiar and extravagant design, the car had a wooden body, and the "feathers" were made by hand in plaster. gold lining in the interiors and the eyes of the swan lit up, and hot water blew out the beak to keep cattle away! besides a multi trumpet horn (running off the exhaust), the car had, belive it or not, a mechanism dumping splats of whitewash every once in a while...to make the car more lifelike!!! the cops in calcutta didnt take kindly to the car, and she was banned from the roads...

subsequently purchased by the Nabha royal family, it stayed with them till 1990, unused but intact, till it was smuggled out to amsterdam. now fully restored, with all gadgets functional, it sure is a shame that this car left the country...

Rare Simca in Goa

a few years back i spotted this rare Simca (french company originally...i think this car dates to a period when it tied up with chrysler)

As with most classics in Goa, it seems to be suitably "adapted!"
