I think it is a 39 Dodge/Plymouth. Cross it every morning en route to work. It is dangerously rusty!

Re: Rust In Pieces... Pics of Disintegrating Classic & Vintage Cars

Karl,

From the curvature of the lower door panel I would suggest a 46/48 model.

!940 and earlier, the lower panel had a slightly inward curve.

Re: Rust In Pieces... Pics of Disintegrating Classic & Vintage Cars

This is the single most depressing thread on the internet. Period.

I'm sure there are several well off classics loving bhpians among us & maybe even more such visitors. I'm asking you why won't you save these veterans without discrimination? Should they have some royal bloodline to be deemed valuable? No they don't, every single V&C is as priceless as it gets. One reason being thrown around is lack of papers but why need papers to fix it & store? A big enough yard & a covered tin shed is all it needs to rescue them from this limbo, which I'm sure is just pocket change for the demographics I'm addressing. If i had the dough, I know I'd be working on as many as it gets.

Rant aside, found this 1958-1964(?) Bedford CA Dormobile Utilabus from UNICEF project inside Calicut Medical College campus which did duty as an ambulance. Still in decent shape from what i see & i hope someone picks it up or atleast cover it up. I couldn't find this posted before. This is also covered elsewhere in art form.

It definitely doesn't need to have a royal lineage to be considered valuable. But some marques are easily restorable while others may not be that easy due to various reasons. Also papers are indeed necessary to prove the ownership even if it is to be put inside a yard,in pucca legal terms.
Regarding this particular Beford Dormobile are you sure it was used an Ambulance? I am asking so, because similar bedfords were there in General Hospital Trivandrum, TD medical college Alleppey etc and they were used not as ambulance but for field visits ,whose role was taken over by the Mahindra's and Gypsy's in the 80's and 90's.
Somebody cannot pick it up unless and until it is auctioned by the department and if they have declared it as scrap vehicle(likely) they will not give the RC alongwith the vehicle. Of course it can be covered up and the best people to do it is some interested students of the college

Just like those center mounted top lights on old ambulances, this too had something like the base of a lamp holder on inside roof with some extension outside. I wanted to take a photo but sadly forgot. Something was fitted there at some point but i may be wrong here about ambulance part.

CMC students did hang around it a lot as seen from their instagrams but none cared to take care of it. Now that's sad.

Well agree these are not general use vehicles but I would always prefer to drive them around once in a while (note: DRIVE not 'use') only then we can enjoy/appreciate them much better rather than keep them as mere static displays. Hence, I would think it necessary they have papers regardless of how much they run, especially if tis not exempted by law! In some developed countries, one can buy any vintage or classic from anywhere even without a 'title' provided they verify that the vehicle is not a stolen one. There are several videos on youtube of people buying cars from the middle of jungles and restoring them etc.! But here, things are made complicated by the insistence of all papers, including TO forms signed by the (ex) owner, and now even his ID proof copy! Regardless of whether the vehicle has been on or off road for decades! So that does complicate things.
That said, there are people even in India who are willing to brave-buy vintages without documents etc. But not all of us would dare venture into that!

Since you have taken the pictures of the vehicle I assume you are/have some connection with Calicut. If so why don't you just ask the Vehicle officer in Calicut medical college about this vehicle.

I will on my next trip but this time i was there for barely 10 mins. By the time i found the admin office, had to drive back. But from what you say, this seems a common presence at many medical colleges.

Re: Rust In Pieces... Pics of Disintegrating Classic & Vintage Cars

This is a carcass of Ford Super 8 Deluxe 4 door Sedan, probably a 46-47 model at Pachmarhi,( M.P). It belonged to Rani Shiv Kuvar Kumari, not aware of her history. But this carcass has been lying in the bushes hundred yards away from her destroyed and abandoned palace "Kamdhaj Castle" for decades, with people stealing and vandalizing whatever they could from the Palace and the Car.
